Since I stopped smoking I can smell a cigarette burning at 500 yards. I guess, though, that I'm the only person on this forum who still likes the smell of a freshly lit cigarette. Stale smoke, ashtrays, walking into a smoker's house, the smell on people's breath and clothes? I can't stand that, but a freshly lit ciggy? Still smells great to me!

I didn't start smoking until I was out of my parents house so I never attempted it, but the way a non-smoker can smell a cigarette, I can't imagine what teenagers living at home are thinking when they try to hide the smell from the parents. I don't care what you do it's pretty much impossible!

When I first quit last year, a friend was staying with us to try and get back on his feet after losing his job and his home. Unfortunately that friend is a cigar smoker. It never bothered me when I smoked, we'd socialize on the porch together. But within a WEEK of quitting... when he walked into the house, I could smell him from 15 ft away; if he came into the room I was in, I had to go to another room, just to get away from the stench.

I always figured non-smokers were a bunch of pansy-noses, but they're really not -- that crap really stinks!!! How my husband put up with me for 27+ yrs of that stink, I shall never know. I guess he really must love me!!! :D
