The problem with mine is that, out of the blue, with no warning signs, I'd notice that fire button is not responding. I'd look at the screen and my ohms would change from original ~1.xx to something like 2.5, which is a sign of a shortage. The problem, however, is that there is no shortage.

That same build reads fine on my other device (at its original ~1ohm) and coil master reader.

Removing and re-sitting the tank yields in different readings from 0.00 to 2.xx. As I mentioned, removing the deck/base and reinstalling it will make alien pick up correct ohms. I can't quiet figure out why it's happening. Doesn't always happen, but enough to be annoying.

Faulty board??

Purchased around thanksgiving time from a reputable US based vendor.

Nothing yet. I sent a message to Smok on Friday and again yesterday. I also sent an email Tuesday to MadVapes who is apparantly handling US Support for Smok. I have not heard back from either.

Thank you. If and when you talk to them, feel free to mention that there are others who experience the same problem.

I posted this in a thread in the General forums, but might get better answers here....

Does anyone have both an Alien and a G-Priv?

If so, any comparisons on weight, size, ease of use (TC modes mainly), finish durability, etc?

I love the G-Priv and I am unsure if I should buy an Alien or pay an extra $10 or so for another G-Priv.

Thanks!

I have an Alien and the G-Priv.

They are the same height and thickness. If you line up the left edge of the mods, the side with the 510, the Alien goes about to the end of the Smok logo on the G-Priv making it about 3/4" (sorry, I don't do metrics well) narrower. It does feel surprisingly lighter.

I don't do much TC, but the G-Priv is much easier and quicker to change between power and TC. The Alien is easy enough to change, but there is a little lag waiting on each step. I tried both a bit in TC, but having a Lavabox DNA200, I tend to go back to that for TC vaping. To me, there is little difference in how the Smoks vape in TC.

I've had the Alien for a couple months and have no problems with the finish. The G-Priv is only a couple weeks old. Hard to give any opinion on durability, but both seem solid and well built.

My personal opinion is to have one of each, the Alien for out and about and the G-Priv for around the house. And if you like and get the tanks, they are very comparable and both go well on either mod. I try different flavors with the Baby Beast and have the Big Beast loaded with a favorite juice. But that's just me. Hard to pick a favorite although I am really liking the touch screen.

Great info. Thx!

I love the Cloud Beast and the BBB so I might do an Alien mod only and a separate BBB (to get the RBA).

Smok releases new stuff way too often though, which drives me crazy.... the new 320, 350 and 400w mods all look cool as well.

Decisions, decisions...

That sounds like a winner to me! :D

Intriguing! But for me, I really like the touch screen and the G-Priv is about the biggest/heaviest I want to go in a mod.

That's the main reason why I bought the G-Priv. I saw a video and the ability to use the touch screen to get to useable TC quickly and easily blew my mind. I am not big on TC but mainly because it is painfully complicated on my current mods.

It is heavy and big though and if it ever leaves the house it's because I'm wearing a winter jacket with big pockets.

Anyways, an Alien (mod only) will be ordered soon likely.

Is anyone having resistance issues withe their Alien?

It was vaping great then all of the sudden nothing. I looked at the screen and it says Ohms Too Low. I thought maybe something happened to the coil in my Moonshot. Pulled it off and put on my Avocado and the same message. Put the Moonshot on my RX200S and it works fine. I tried multiple tanks and none of them will work on the Alien. All of them work fine on 4 different devices. Tried new batteries, tried reloading firmware, tried changing modes and nothing helped. I finally got it to read a tank that has a 1.5 ohm coil but the Alien is seeing it at .199 ohms.

I'm not getting that great a discrepancy, but I don't think my Alien is reading starting resistances accurately enough; to get my TC working well, I have to adjust the ohms every time. Upshot of Smok devices is that they have that feature to begin with.

am i the only one that has problems with the 1.2.2 firmware? when i got it it had the 1.2.1 on it. worked great tc all really nice. today i upgraded just cause and now im getting an almost empty drag evry once in a whille, notice big power pull backs instead of a smooth regulation and have to put the c° way higher to get the same results.
No, if you go back a few pages it was discussed that some had tc issues with 1.2.2.
Edit: Looks like started on page 4.
