On the V8 stick you want to stick with the M Series baby coils. They are rated for direct output. The baby t12 will work but is not rated for direct output. Your V8 stick will try to push to reach the wattage range for that coil even on a nearly dead battery which is when it becomes dangerous and puts you at risk of the mod exploding if the saftety doesn’t kick in first.

Hello, so I tried the Baby T-12 and the taste and vapor production is fine, but it makes a quite loud crackling noice every time I inhale. Is this dangerous, or just a nuisance?

Crackling/popping noises can be normal especially when the vape has been sitting unused for a little while. Everytime you inhale is something to keep an eye on also if you’re going to use baby t12 in a device that isn’t made to consistently power it then you need to be safe about it. Signs you need to watch for are the battery getting warm and when this happens you need to allow your stick to cool down. Also not using it when the stick is not fully charged. Smok does have protections in place but they don’t always work and from what I have saw it’s more frequent that they don’t work on their Stick mods.

 Can you explain further?
You seem to be saying the smok stick has voltage boosting on the 'T' series coils but not on the 'M' series coils?
How does it know which one its got, seeing as both are 0.15 ohms?

T 12 has more coil to heat up requiring more power or a longer hold on the power. M 2 has less coil and is easier on the battery to get it to operating temperature.
A baby T12 is designed for use in devices that can handle the power the coil will pull from the device safely and consistently. A stick can not handle the consistent drain a T12 will cause. As the battery power lowers the stick will continue trying to put out enough power to meet the T12 best range. The sticks battery is drained quickly and can’t pull enough power to fire the coil. This could lead to the batter becoming over heated leading to explosions due to a constant strain on the battery to power the t12 to the best W range. The M series coils were designed for direct output meaning they pull no more power that what the stick is capable of firing regardless of if the stick is fully charged or half. I hope this makes sense.

The M2 is just an even performer across the entire voltage range the mod delivers. That's it.
It performs well when the battery is fully charged, and it performs well when it's going empty.

For the V8 stick:
It comes with a 0.15ohm coil installed. Running any other 0.15ohm coil is not going to harm you or the mod. Will it perform worse, better, equal? That's for you to test. Chances are, the T12 won't perform as well as soon as the voltage goes down.

Reading the product desc, the V8 stick caps at 20CDR (max 4.2V=84W), which is less than a 0.15ohm would theoretically draw from an entirely unregulated mod, but still enough to power the T12 in the manner Smok advises you to. So.. no problems.

I run a similar setup with my Ikonn Total. It eats coils down to 0.15ohms, but at the same time caps at 50W. I run whatever coils I desire, although some, of course, perform better with that cap than others.

Very useful information. I have saw quite a few that have blown up due to failed safety regulations on the stick. In most of these cases the person was using a t12 or t8.(Sadly here there are factors I do not know such as how the device was charged, etc) I do see what you’re saying in terms of where the stick caps out at. Not everyone understands this and not everyone realizes that when their battery is half dead and getting hot from continuously trying to power the t12 that it’s time to set the stick down and and let it cool instead of continuing to vape and pushing the limits. This is why the stick was designed for use with the M series coils to avoid this all together for those who don’t understand and using one type of coil makes it much more simpler for newbies as well.

Also, an Ikonn total is still a device 10xs better than Smok!

*edited to add this probably came out wrong, I just got to work and haven’t had near enough coffee to function quite yet!

Well, that's what always kept me from getting a V8 stick: Smok.

I love the Big Baby Beast and the Baby coils to death, but Smok mods.. erh.. no, thx - too many "incidents" I've heard of. Plus, I'm not a fan of internal batteries. For all I know, they could equip it with complete and utter garbage, and I'll only learn about it if the device fails... not what I'm looking for.

Agreed! I am currently using a vaporesso cascade one plus and have a VooPoo Caliber on rotate as my back up. I’m not a fan of internal batteries either using these to try them out and see how I feel about them VS the Smok we carry. So far I am feeling like we may quit carrying Smok Pens and replace them with the Caliber and Vaporesso options. The Caliber stays charged all day even with consistent use which is awesome. The Vaporesso will last a solid 4 hours 6 hours if I continue vaping past full charge and into the red. Not bad but definitely not as good as the caliber.

No, sorry. I'm even more confused.
the stick will continue trying to put out enough power to meet the T12 best range.
You are talking about the stick as if it is a "smart regulated" mod, such that
*with a 0.15 ohm T series coil the mod will 'try' to develop 60-80W
*with a 0.15 ohm M series coil the mod will 'try' to develop 25-45W
Doesn't ohms law get a look in?

I always thought of the stick as a mech with protection built around the boundaries, namely
* current too high (Resistance too low)
*battery voltage too low
*fired for too long

**maths alert**

After more thought, try this:

The 0.15 ohm M-coil provided with the stick has a range of 25-45W.
To acheive this the voltage applied to the coil is given by
V^2=(0.15*45). Then applied-V=2.6V, and 1.6V is lost in the mod.
The current in the coil is given by I^2=(45/0.15); I=17.33A.

Edit: the rest of this is probably incorrect. It would apply to a mech, but the smok-stick has electronics.
So the mod has to dissipate about 28W.
That is why the stick gets hot, and it will get equally hot with the M-series and the T-series.
Stick's internal resistance will be about 0.1 ohm. (1.6/17.33)

This tallies with the 20A figure.
Smok claims the stick will fire a 0.1 ohm coil,
4.2V /(0.1 ohm coil + 0.1 ohm mod) = 21A

TLDR: If the stick developes 45W in the 0.15 ohm M-coil, it will develop 45W in the T-coil; and the T-coil (range 60-80W) wont vape well.

If I understand your post correctly, you assume not that the M coil was tailored to fit the mod's output, but that the mod's output was adjusted to fit the M coil desired wattage at 0.15ohm?

That's most certainly not the case, for 2 reasons:

(A) "the battery has a 3000mAh super high capacity and 20amps continious discharge capability, while its tank is the famous TFV8 big baby tank which is 5ml and shares all the baby beast coils, when used with the included baby M2 coil head, which specially made for stick v8 battery"
and

(B) Because it shares "all the baby beast coils", it can also use different coils with the same wattage output, but signficantly higher restistance (M2 vs Q2). Even the standard package includes 2 different versions of the M2 coil, 0.15 and 0.25 ohms.

I mean, it's the standard problem of all unregulated mods: You have to put more brainpower into developing the coils lineup, so they all (or most of them) work rather well with what the mod's naturally putting out. Who knows what kind of trickery the manufacturers put into their electronics to make this work? Mabye the coils are made of different materials, and maybe the mod measures resistance changes, determines the exact type of coil it has in it, and adjusts output accordingly? Possible, but very unlikely.

(And yes, ofc, the lower the overall output is, the bigger the chance is that the M2 will outperform the T12. But that's something we've already established a few posts above. So again, why not test it? Maybe the T12 does well on the V8, maybe it doesn't... there's no danger in trying.)

Just trying to make sense of all this.

No. I just worked backwards from the coil.
The watt range of the coil was made to match the output range of the mod. Both 25-45 Watt, as MrsWood asserts.
"... baby M2 coil head, which [was] specially made for stick v8 battery mod"
I do not have a Smok Stick to test.
-------------------------
The Ikon is limited to 50W.
A .3528 ohm coil with 4.2V, consumes 50W.
How does the iKonn handle lower resistances than this?
Is the iKonn 'direct output' for coils greater than .3528 and regulated for coils less than this?

Do you think Smok follows the same strategy for coils less than 0.21 ohms?

PS. Sorry OP for derailing the thread.
