Questions to those who were previous smokers and now moved to vaping.

1. Do you still feel the urge to eat/drink something every hour or so just so you could get back that good cigarette taste again? Currently a smoker, I find myself doing this alot not because I am hungry or thirsty but because I want to smoke a good cigarette.

2. Do you think you are now addicted to vaping in a similar fashion you were to smoking?

3. Did you gain weight after quitting cigarettes?

4. Do you think (in any way) you left a bad habit and stepped into another?

Please keep a note if you were a 2+ pack smoker.

Thanks for your help.

I love vaping and may be "addicted," but I can go off and do errands or out to dinner with friends or whatever and not be dying for a vape like I did for a cig, and I don't generally grab a vape first thing in the morning, etc. I don't think I would want to give it up, though, so maybe that is addiction.

No urges for that cigarette taste, but then I didn't think of it as "good." I haven't had a cig since I started vaping, but those who have and posted here have said they taste just awful after vaping.

I smoked about a pack and a half a day and there were days when I hit 2 packs. UGH!

I have gained weight, but not sure if it is from vaping. I ate my way through the holidays and started vaping in January, so I suspect that the weight gain has more to do with the food intake before I started vaping.

I don't see vaping as a "bad" habit. It is a good thing and tastes wonderful and is enjoyable. No way it seems "bad."

1. I never did this while smoking so can't comment.

2. Yes, but it is easier to go longer without vaping than it ever was to go without smoking. It is also easier to slowly reduce the amount of nicotine you are using.

3. Yes, but I also got married to a very good cook. The jury is still out on that one.

4. I still have a habit, but from all the research I can find, I am convinced that vaping is by far less harmful of an addiction. As in, at least 1,000 times safer.

Was a 1 PAD smoker for 20+ years.

1. I find myself drinking water a lot... but I believe it's just because vaping drys me out.

2. I'm addicted to vaping. But, not like I was with smoking. With vaping, I can go longer periods of time without it.

3. I did not gain weight.

4. Vaping, for me, is definitely not a bad habit. E-Juice is very basic and has about 4 ingredients... I feel very happy with this habit.

I was previously a 2 pack-a-day smoker... been smoke-free for over a year.

Smoked 1-2 packs a day for 29 years. Stopped smoking after first vape.

1. I actually eat a lot less now that I vape, I work 10+ hour shifts at a desk where I can vape and I used to snack ALL NIGHT. Chips, various seeds, candy, pretzels and occasionally healthy stuff and I just don't do that anymore. It's not a conscious effort, it's obvious to me I was feeding an oral fixation and now that I vape, it's taken care of.

2. It's a fuzzy thing to me calling it an addiction. "the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma." Habit forming, yes. Severe trauma if I couldn't, ehhhhhhhhh....I wouldn't be a happy camper but it's NOTHING like cigarettes were. Not having a cigarette when I "needed" one was BAD.

3. No I've lost weight.

4. I don't think vaping in and of itself is bad but like with anything, if you have an addictive personality you're gonna prolly get obsessive about it. I see plenty of people on here who are PROBABLY spending money they shouldn't on mods and e-liquid etc. I've found myself drooling over a certain vaping-related item and thinking about what bills I could rearrange to buy it. So far I've spent way less on vaping than I would have on cigarettes in the same time frame. I had some pretty bad health issues recently that made me miss a good amount of work though so I'm still playing catch up big time and were that not the case I'd most likely have spent more. My vice though is eliquids as opposed to gear. Once I get back on my feet I'll more than likely buy a moderately priced mod and a few extra egos and be happy with that as far as gear.

Is this a survey for a research project? The way this is worded suggests that to me...

1. Do you still feel the urge to eat/drink something every hour or so just so you could get back that good cigarette taste again? Currently a smoker, I find myself doing this alot not because I am hungry or thirsty but because I want to smoke a good cigarette.

I never had such an urge when I smoked. There were certain beverages that I enjoyed with cigarettes that I do not drink as often now, but that is because their stronger flavor sometimes contrasts with the flavor I'm currently vaping (which I change often).

2. Do you think you are now addicted to vaping in a similar fashion you were to smoking?

Not really. After only a month of strictly vaping, I am still addicted to nicotine, but I find that I can go for longer periods not vaping than I could not smoking. I've also noticed that higher nicotine-strength liquids that I used when I first started are beginning to feel strong to me, so I think that addiction is in decline.

3. Did you gain weight after quitting cigarettes?

A little--but I think that is due to the fact that I enjoy the flavors of my food better.

4. Do you think (in any way) you left a bad habit and stepped into another?

"Bad" is a relative term. Is vaping more harmful than not vaping? Probably in some way. Is it less harmful than smoking? Probably very much so. But another question is whether or not I consider vaping a habit. Strangely, I view it more of a pastime than a habit like smoking. I vape to keep myself from smoking, so smoking is the "habit" and vaping is the coping mechanism.

1. Strangely, no.

2. I'm addicted to nicotine, but yh, I can see how vaping would be addictive, what with all those lovely flavors.

3. I'm vaping my own Anise flavor in the hope I don't gain the weight. It seems to be working because my appetite is just non-existant. Been 5 weeks now so a little more time will tell.

4. I do. But only as a stepping stone to leaving nicotine behind. Once I'm down to 0mg everything I have will be going to PIF.

Strangely, although I was a 2+ PAD smoker I don't like any juices over 12mg/ml.

I don't have an urge for the taste of a cigarette, and never really did. Sometimes I feel like munching on something because of the hand-mouth thing, but when I do I usually grab some carrots or other healthy, crunchy thing.

2. Do you think you are now addicted to vaping in a similar fashion you were to smoking?

At first I thought not - the first several months I was vaping I didn't have a desire to pick up my PV first thing like I did with a smoke, and I could go long periods without it. I have dropped my nic level down to 6mg now, and I do seem to be vaping constantly when I can. I have had opportunities to go long periods without vaping, and during those times I still really "crave" a vape break. The discomfort isn't nearly like what it was when I needed a smoke (I would get EXTREMELY fidgety and impatient) but it is still there. So the jury's out on that one for me.

3. Did you gain weight after quitting cigarettes?

Nope. I lost about 10 lbs the first month. Quitting smoking did end up triggering an autoimmune condition that causes one to gain weight quickly, so I ended up gaining 20lbs in 2 months after about 4 months of vaping. Most of what I've seen though from people who are otherwise healthy is that weight loss or maintenance is more common than weight gain like with other methods of quitting.

4. Do you think (in any way) you left a bad habit and stepped into another?

I see it as "switching" methods, not a different habit. In fact, I see vaping as a healthier habit, and not one to be too concerned about. So no, I didn't go from one habit to another; it's the same habit using different means to satisfy it.

Please keep a note if you were a 2+ pack smoker.

Thanks for your help.

Never got that high, but a pack a day Camel Filters for 30 years.

2. Do you think you are now addicted to vaping in a similar fashion you were to smoking? No. My dependence on vaping is decreasing, and I am also mostly vaping 0 nic now (9 months in)

3. Did you gain weight after quitting cigarettes? No

4. Do you think (in any way) you left a bad habit and stepped into another? I don't think so. Vaping was much more important to me when I was still in the throes of breaking the smoking addiction. It has become more something I enjoy but can take or leave. If I had to stop, I would miss it for a while, but I don't think there would be any cravings.

I smoked for 47 years, on average probably a pack a day or more.

Answers to questions 1, 2, 3 = everyone is different and thus their results will be different.

Question 4: Going from smoking that most likely will kill you to vaping that studies confirm have no carcinogenic causing substances in them, the answer is no.

Haha. Wv2win saved me from typing everything out. I concur with him.

1. No. I was over smoking after the first few days of vaping and generally find it repulsive now.

2. At first I was. But now I can go for hours without vaping. I've come to the conclusion that it was all the other crap in ciggs that made me want to have one every 30 minutes.

3. Lost weight. (used all that extra energy to start working out weekly)

4. I think I left a terrible, disgusting habit for much healthier habit. Everything about my life has improved and continues to do so now that I'm not held back by smoking.

I was a PAD smoker btw.
