This has puzzled me - as I am sure it has you:

Ex-smokers are not interested in trying vaping.

I finally broke my sister-in-law down about this with the help of a few glasses of wine. Yes, she finds it interesting watching me vape, and she would like to do it herself, but she is worried that it would lead back to smoking cigarettes.

So, there you have it. We broke the habit by vaping and so can enjoy its relaxing properties whereas they cannot.

Pity for them.

Question: Do you think vaping makes you more vulnerable to taking up the smoking habit again or possibly less vulnerable?

I have smoked 5, or so, cigarettes in the 18 months since I quit smoking. Didn't do anything for me; my vape tastes better and has throat hit, but if my vape weren't up to par, I probably would have started smoking again. If one who has quit smoking gets that feeling again from vaping, but not quite, it would be pretty tempting to go back to smoking...

Oh hell no. If anything vaping takes away the fear of dropping into a smoking relapse. I finally found something that broke a 30 year smoking habit with zero relapse. Why on earth would that make me think I was now more vulnerable to pick up smoking again?

The majority here (not everyone) report that smoking turns on them and goes gross shortly after they start vaping. That happened to me too and I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke, and couldn't within my first couple weeks of vaping. After 30 years of smoking and thinking I could never quit I sure as hell never saw that coming. At the same time I know ex-smokers who did it the hard way and ran around for years begging people to blow smoke in their face after they quit. Sorta.

So you tell me who is more vulnerable to a relapse?

My daughter and I quit smoking cold turkey about 8 years ago. The desire to smoke never left us. About 2 years ago, the desire to start smoking again was really getting to us, and we both almost broke several times. My daughter had heard about ecigarettes somewhere, and we started looking into it. We hemmed and hawed for a couple months more, and then caved and got a couple of Blu disposables, just to see if they took care of the cravings. We have not looked back. Vaping is what is keeping us from going back to smoking. Cigarettes are not a temptation any longer.

Have a friend who quit smoking over a year ago. They know I've been vaping and off the analogs for the past 6 wks. Just last night they told me that for the past 3 MO that they've had intense cravings for a cigarette to the point that they've almost purchased them. I offered to help them get started with vaping and said do not go back to cigs. We'll see what happens.

A few days back, I ran out of juice and be it psychological or physiological reasons, my body needs nicotine to do my bathroom duties in the morning. I had no choice but to bum an analog off my wife. The first few puffs tasted like crap but after a while I was in heaven and loving the taste again. Right after my bathroom duties I went out and bought loads of juice.

Nicotine aside, if you've broken yourself of one costly habit, why pick up another?

That's assuming one actually has.

I only know of one current ex-smoker/non-vaper who has stayed quit for... about two years. And it's her fourth time around. At least she knows she has better options this time than relapsing into smoking.

This ^^^ I totally agree with.

OTOH, if someone has quit smoking and is happy with that and doing well, why would they start vaping? I do not believe the nic in our vape is any more addictive than caffeine, but even vaping zero nic has the potential for problems down the road.

Now if someone wants to vape and understands the risks, that's cool with me. I just would not encourage anyone who is not having a problem with smoking to vape.
