Smoktech 2.8 single coil carto was actually 1.1ohm... Oh god why

Just a tip on the multimeter ... when measuring very low resistances like we are here, you want to touch the test leads together and get a reading ... most likely somewhere around 0.2 Ohms ... which is the resistance of the leads themselves and internals of the meter ... then when you measure the resistance of your carto you want to subtract that 0.2 or whatever from the meter reading to get the actual resistance of the carto.

Or get a better quality meter with a "zero" function :p

Actually, I think the Provari would double as a very expensive multimeter ;) hehe

I understood that he already has a ProVari, so that's not added expense.

And I guess it would double as an ohm meter, since it doesn't have enough functions to be a multi-meter?

When checking resistance on the ProVari, if you get a weird reading like that, try removing and re-inserting the battery, then checking again. Sometimes I find the ohm check feature bugs out and reads low. I actually asked ProVape if they could look into it when I sent mine in for upgrade, and it came back and so far hasn't had any problems. I think it may be a fouled center post, because mine was shiny new when it came back (along with the rest of the body).

The ProVari can double as a cheap multi-meter.

Problem is, the Provari will measure the resistance under load.... In other words, it fires the carto to get real resistance. You can't do that with no juice in it or it'll singe it. The multimeter will check without putting a lot of current through it so you can do it before filling.

This is a guess, someone correct me of I'm wrong, please.

You are correct. :)

I've tested empty cartos on the ProVari and never had a problem. It puts the lowest voltage through the carto (3.2v for v1, 2.8v for v2) to get the resistance so I find that's not enough to scorch it for the short burst it fires it.

It's impossible to check the resistance (to current flow) without passing a current through it, regardless if it's a ProVari, VMax, ohm meter, or multi-meter. It's a very small current required.

Hence, you should NEVER check the resistance of a battery. You are providing many times the reference value of the signal sent and will (hopefully) blow a fuse internally in the meter or (worst case) fry the meter itself.

Obviously a case of too many homotrons.

Good information here!!
