What operating system does it run? I am a Windows user. I HATE 8/8.1 and haven't completely installed 10 yet but I don't want to have to switch my OS this late in the game. Been using Windows since... what was before Windows 95? Since then. :D
My son hated 8/8.1. He downgraded to 7 and after trying the 10 upgrade, he went back to 7.

My first PC was an AT with a whopping 640k of memory which I upgraded to 1 meg, and a 20 MB hard drive. Next was a self built AMD 386 40 Mhz. Over the years, everything had gotten replaced in that tower case except for the case itself and the power supply. Went up to a 486, then a Pentium II. I had probably went through about 5 or 6 different graphics cards on that. After that I stopped building PC's from components and just bought pre-built ones. Had a Celeron desktop for the kids, and laptops.

Went back to desktops a year ago when my sons wanted gaming machines. Started with Lenovo K450's (i5, Nvidia 630 graphics card). Bumped up the memory to 16 GB, swapped out the power supplies with 750 watt supplies, and replaced the graphics with Nvidia GTX760 cards and added Corsair mechanical keyboards. And added 4 TB secondary drives to supplement their 1 TB main drives.

I will check it out! I have GOT to get rid of this stupid Satellite. I was saving up for a nice laptop but my old Gateway died right in the middle of saving up and I had to settle for this one. It has not been right since day 1. Argh.
That's what i have is a Satellite and i hate this thing.Different Toshiba programs keep shutting themselves down or just quit responding,it has crashed on me a few times or will just freeze up.I thought the hard drive was the crashing issue,so i bought a new to replace it,and it crashed 5 minutes after i got the new drive all booted up haha.At tax time,i am definitely replacing this thing.

Yeah, it's definitely a blessing! Lucky for us he really applied himself all throughout school...too bad that didn't rub off on his twin brother! :p
None of my 3 are in school. My 21-year-old is one of those uber smart people who never needs to crack a book and still whizzes through life. It drives me crazy that he won't use his talent to ensure his future!!! I had to be on him constantly in high school because he was capable of so much more than he actually did. His teachers were the same way. So frustrating!!! I am really hoping that once he gets done with his tour in the Marines he will actually apply himself. He can do absolutely anything he wants to. I would give anything for a mind like his! I do think my daughter will eventually go to school but she has her hands full with my 6-year-old granddaughter at the moment. My 19-year-old wants to be an online game reviewer, lol. He has mad skillz in the video game department. :)

I use Dell, Dell and Dell.

Why?

They were made to be repairable and I'm dang good at bringing dead PC's back to life:D

Repairable... that can be argued about. Custom motherboards or power supplies that can not be replaced by anything else than replacement parts from the same manufacturer does not count as repairable in my opinion.
Sure, it's different with laptops, but for desktop PCs, all this custom motherboard/psu crap is asshattery from the manufacturers side. :grumble:

Right behind you...
All you folks complaining about computers have it easy.

I've been struggling along with this pile o' parts, had to assemble them myself even.

Had to turn this pile of junk:

Into this assembled pile of junk:

Then I've been forced to use the damned thing for the last year and a half, on a 1440p monitor. I mean, it's not even 4k, and 780ti boards are so 2013!

My last one was Water cooled through a Mini Fridge and would run cooler the longer it was used.:D

Some of you guys talking about your first computers really make me feel old. I didn't own my first computer til I was an adult, but in school the first one I used didn't even have floppy drives, it took a tape to save anything.

When I say save I do mean after you wrote it as there were no pre bought programs for it.

The next ones I use where the old apple computers that you had to have the boot disk for.

SSD....the way to go

Sent with one hand, the other is busy vaping
I don't know enough about them to know if one will help me with this piece of crap. My CPU runs at 100% all the time. It never goes down. I have tried everything I can think of to help slow it down (aside from uninstalling the apps-they pay me money!!!). If I added a SSD would that help speed things up for me?

What apps are paying you money? And no, if your CPU is pegged, an SSD really won't help a lot. You've got something else going on, and I'd hazard a guess that your something else starts with "mal" and ends in "ware".

Well this one has always been super smart and always knew what he wanted to do (studying to be a psychiatrist) but his brothers on the other hand, well...his older brother, he wants to go to school, but he's got a wife and kids so work it is for him right now. He did work his way up from just a counter worker to being general manager of his restaurant in just a couple of years though, so he does have motivation! Now the twin, well he originally wanted to go in the Marines when he was in high school, even signed up, but when it came time to take the oath, he panicked and backed out. Have no idea what he'll do with his life...right now his ambition is to be a rapper...OMG really?! Like that's gonna happen!
