Yeah... I got ham hocks for hands and getting that coil wrapped with the post in there was a pain and the coils would always be a little slanted and I had to go back in to straighten them out... I looked at the post and figured it'd be easier without it. To keep that last wrap tight, I'll go about 3/4 of the way around, then finish it up (wrapping it back towards the inside of the post to allow it to maintain tension).

Once I did that, my coils were much more consistent and tight around the mesh wick.

Hey everyone,

Did about 5 recoils today still with no luck , the hotspot seems to be persisting particularly the top part. Is there any tips that I should be looking out or any recommended videos particularly on hotspot fixing?

Can you post a couple of closeups? One from above and a couple from either side of the coil that shows the wraps?

It is solvable... hotspots always are.

When I was using mesh on my builds I would always coil it clockwise and on the last leg into screw, I would go counter clockwise. That way there is very little wire from the wick to center post washer.

Having said that. SS rope with ekowool is the way to go on any Genny atomizer.

One of my simplest methods of hot spot repair is simply spinning the wick (if mesh is being used in this case). The wrap should be loose enough to permit such a spin, tight enough to make contact all around.

Hey just to put this out there...

After trying loads and loads of wicking setups I finally came down to 2 really good ones
1: SS wire wick 7x7 with the centre core removed,
2: 400 mesh wrapped once around a good sized cotton centre.

At present the cotton /mesh setup is unreal, I use .5 ribbon wire either 3/2 or 4/3 wrap and its unstoppable. It brings in around .8 to 1ohm, flavour and vapour is probably as good as its gonna get. It's taken a long time playing around with this to get here, should mention I reluctantly drilled the air hole out to about 2mm but its made a hell of a difference to my usual vape style, instead of fighting draws this is a very smooth big deep draw thats full of flavour and buckets of vapour.

A major issue I found was the time to heat the coils, hence centre core removed means less SS to heat and more juice instead. One wrap of ss mesh instead of several also reduces heating time and quicker to reach the liquid...

To mention I have the silver plated centre screw in to speed up the firing time and it has made a substantial difference. I also shaped a piece of tinfoil to bulk up the inside of the chamber but caution - it must not be able to touch the centre screw or negative screw. Cos it makes another big difference I'm going down the safer Delrin insert road as its gonna be worth it, 10 bucks from Ifancyone site then I'm closing the book on this beast.

How frequently are you having to change out the center cotton core?

Hi, so far I have not needed to change it after approx 1 week. The mesh does a good job of holding it in shape and preventing it from possibly burning. When you want to change liquids just power through the old one, don't bother to try washing out. When you heat the coil u can see the saturated cotton change back to white as it heats up and dries out behind the mesh, very quickly the new liquid saturates through.

Food for thought here on over drilling the air hole. Came up with an idea of using a small jubilee clip over the top cap that will cover the air hole. Lets say you drill different sizes of holes around the circumference of the jubilee clip from 1mm and go up in spaced out increments to 1.2mm 1.3mm etc etc that way all you've got to do is twist the clip around over the air hole to the desired size you want.
It might look an ugly bugger or dam funky, I guess you could also do this with a plastic zip cord but I reckon a shiny silver jubilee clip would finish better.

Any thoughts on this anyone or have I truly gone bonkers?

Sorry been on the road, today I had sometime and tried to do up the rsst again and did about 8 recoils, wires are everywhere, took out the center pin and coil it and it helps tho I still did a horrible job, then I took out the mesh entirely and coil it there then lock it back to neg and pos, after pulsing and tweaking I finally got my first working rsst, tho vapor is not great and probably on the high side of resistance, it's still a bearable vape.

During the pulsing stage, I should always aim for dark orange glow rather than bright ones right? I try to avoid putting on any liquids until I'm certain there's no hotspots because it's always a mess changing the coil or mesh from then on..

Thought I'd share my RSST. I drilled out the wick hole for dual wicks. running 2/3 .8x.1 ribbon wire on a 7x19 3/32 SS rope with 3mm ekowool sleeve. Came out to .42 ohms. Also had to drill another hole for the fill hole, though I could have just slipped my needle between the wick hole and wick. Vapes great, good flavor, lots of vapor, and strong throat hit.

Through some extensive research and a lot of contemplating... I have settled on the RSST for my 1st genny type atomizer. Was contemplating the AGA-T2 and the AGA-T3 as well, but thought maybe I should just start out simple, (so to say)... I have an Igo-L and a SmokTech RDA and have enjoyed them for some time now, but wanted to venture into the tank type to use on my Natural mechanical. I will say it was almost as easy to set up as most people have suggested. I have only had it for a few days now and am enjoying it very much now that I have a setup in it that I like. I set it up at first using the Petar K method with 400 SS mesh but had a problem with hot spots. I got them worked out and it did vape pretty good, though not like I thought it would. Then I went a step further and built a coil on the micro coil concept with a 1/8" diameter with all the coils touching and had no problems with hot spots at all and it vaped better. Vaped through 2 tanks and all was ok except I couldn't get rid of the metallic taste!! From most of what I have read, the metallic taste goes away after a tank or so, but it didn't even decrease and was just not an enjoyable vape at all. Then I watched a few video's and read some more and saw some people were having luck with cotton wicking and I was all in at that point!!! I worried about leaking at first, but haven't had any at all. I am about 6 tanks in so far and it has been a very good vape in my book... I am using 28ga wire and it Ω'd out at about 1.5Ω, but would have liked it in or around 1-1.2Ω. Not a big fan of sub-ohm at all. I think in the next few days I will coil up a micro 1/16" coil with cotton and give that a try. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to all in this thread, and all on ECF for all the help and suggestions. I think I'm really going to like this new setup very much....

I just want an even, uniform glow before I put any liquid into the tank. The glow color is a function of the voltage, resistance, other factors. I started coiling mine directly around the mesh, but now I use a small screwdriver shank and slide the mesh/cotton center wick into it after installing and pulsing the coil. I find I can recycle the coil for many wicks, with small adjustments. Give us a pic of your setup and maybe we can provide a pointer or two...

When it is set up right, the flavor should knock your socks off.

I pretty much done most build options on the rsst and went back to basics and simplified things, coil is pre-built and wick is threaded, this needs tilting tho... BUT so easy to re-wick...
