I changed the cartomizer in one of my tanks this morning and experienced a pretty harsh vape. Thought a first maybe I didn't get it saturated good but I always over saturate them and sling out the excess. Well after a few hits I pulled it out and carefully pulled it apart to get to bottom of this. What I found was one of those insulating tubes they put over the solder connections was over top of the coil, mmm mmm nothing like the taste of burnt insulator. I have pretty good success rate with ST DCs but for sure they are not all created equal.

I really want a gripper too, I'm just worried the PWM is going to cause issues with my RBAs so I'm waiting for the dust to settle :)

I really wanted one, until I found out what the price was. (it's allmost as much as the vmax)

Not going to pay that much for a plastic box mod.

It doesn't even look well made (In Pbusardo's review, there's some close up pics, and they look horrible, like the thing is about to fall apart)

I ended up buying an Ovale v8 for half the price instead.

ya, it's PWM, seems lower duty cycle than the MAX but will end up doing the same thing to you. i'm not into the SS mesh yet (that's what's singing and shorting on you isn't it?) so havn't seen the failures you have BUT see PWM work better on some cartos that want a lot of power. too bad cause the gripper is a great form factor.

WAIT, just thought of something, since the gripper uses a "boost" type PWM (I know PWM isn't buck/boost that's VR) it might BE better than the MAX that uses a buck type.

That's a good point

I should have mentioned as well that its hard enough for me to use the Vmax vs. the Provari simply because of how much cheaper it feels (my hands are very vain), the gripper probably has zero chance lol

Good point about cartos. If I was a carto user, things would be very different. Best carto I've ever had was a Fusion on the Vmax hands down. But since I'm not, its Penelope ftw.

I'm pretty sure I want one for at work. Gripper is what I want.

I assume you are aware they are not 4amp units as advertised, only 3amp.

Edit: In case anyone hasn't seen it here is a Busardo review of the Gripper.

FWIW I sent mine back, first because it wasn't what was advertise, and secondly most of the things Busardo didn't like about it. I actually liked the Ovale V8 better for build quality at 1/2 the price, but alas only a 2.5amp unit.

Life’s too short to use cheap tool is my motto too, and as an engineer it gets expensive buying knipex hand tools and gets the wife hot, after 30 years she accepts all the fluke prices. If you can afforded to keep those “good feeling” tools in your hand for vaping go for it, there’s no magic bullet here just PWM and VR Buck/Boost technology implemented in different quality’s of “flash light tubes” with the evolution of amp draw and clickie bells.
My fusions have never been better than on a VMAX, even better than a Provari on the vape, not on the “hand feel” of course.
Good feeling in the hand, how many frogs do we have to kiss to find that prince? The more expensive the better works but we keep hoping one of those with Chinese frogs with all those warts will be a good feel in the hand and not use PWM. It will come, they can set up CNC machines to make tubes and someday they will figure out PWM was made for Servo Motors not DC supply
