hi all-new vmax owner. stupid questions about to be asked, as this is my first advanced vv device, aside from the ego twists and a few lava tube knock offs.

what are the best resistance (single and/or dual) cartos to use with tanks?
what batteries should i order (this one came with 2 proprietary vmax 18350 750 mah flat top bats, and i have 2 efest imr 18350 800 mah bats that fit fine-are these okay?)
obviously, i don't know too much here, and it seems like everybody warns noobs about stacked battery mods...i don't want to screw this thing up, and i'm afraid i may be in over my head since i don't know what the difference between protected/unprotected bats is, what kind of cartos to use, what resistance is best for what voltage...i don't know anything!
the vivi nova tanks-are they okay to use? i keep getting a kind of burnt taste, even when i set the voltage really low on the vmax (like 3.2). what resistance head should i be using? should i even bother with wick systems, or should i stick with cartomizers?
sorry for all the dumb questions that have probably been answered in the past 107 pages of this thread, i'm just trying to figure it all out.
thanks in advance for the advice.

thanks, martinc. i really am a bit to new at this to be using such an advanced device, but i had to get it-found a great deal on the classies. like i said, the vivi nova gives good vapor, but a bit of a burnt wick taste. what's up with that? should i avoid wick based tanks and stick with lo to mid res cartos?

If you're getting a burnt taste it's too much voltage for the head on the Nova. A good rule of thumb is with the Vmax stick with 2.5ohms and above. Start your voltage on the Vmax and work your way up slowly. If you start to get a burnt taste back it back down to find what works for you. I pretty much stick with 3ohm single coil cartos in a tank. It's a great vape on the Vmax.

i'm getting some great advice here-thanks everybody.

now, i'm using a 2.4 ohm carto in the tank that came with the unit (at least that's what the vmax is reading it at), and i've finally started getting some good vapor/taste at around 3.7 v. when i use a lower res (like a 1.8) i get good vapor but i have to turn the voltage way up. so if i stick with 2.5 and 3 dual coils, i should be good, right? and does it matter whether they're single or dual coil cartos? i can't tell the difference between the two, really...unless i'm missing something...which i may be.

thanks again for the advice. this thread is so helpful!

anybody that would have any good sources on where i can order pre punched cartos for my tanks at the resistance you are recommending for my vmax (2.5 and 3 seem to be the way to go, right?), please let me know where. i'd also love opinions on whether to order single or dual coils. i'd like to buy a few of each and see what works best. right now, i'm all over the place, because i have no idea what i'm looking for. i am definitely looking for tank cartos, though...dripping is not for me-too much work, and i need something i can fill for the day and take with me. i drive a lot, and i need my pv with me, especially in the car (i used to chain smoke in the car...more than anywhere else, that was the hardest part to overcome when i stopped smoking). i guess it would be wise to have 2 charged extra batts with me at all times, as well, and my backup system (either my ego twists or my lava tube mini knock off...or my sweet looking but very tempermental apollo stainless steel vtube-they all use the 18350 batteries, so i will most likely go with the trusty ego twists as back up, otherwise i will be carrying a case not only for my juice and cartos, but one for a bunch of batteries as well).

again, appreciate all the input. i think i may be in over my head with this unit, but what's done is done. i'm not a math person at all, so i'm going strictly by taste here...and your advice. forget me ever learning ohm's law-it's just not going to happen. i'll take the above advice and go for the 2.5 and above...i guess i'll have to try single and dual coil to see which works better, and hope i don't mix things up.

IMO single coil work best with the Vmax.

You can use bigger ones like this. VZ 510 4XL HV Cartomizer 3.2 Ohm, Single Pc - Stainless - E Cig : Joye eGo & eGo-T | Boge Leo | Cartomizers | E-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes | eGo Tank. They have them in 2.5 and 3.2 v.

Or you can get punched cartos. Tank Replacement Single Coil Cartomizer, 3.2 ohms | DCT Tank Cartomizer - E Cig : Joye eGo & eGo-T | Boge Leo | Cartomizers | E-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes | eGo Tank. And put them in a tank like this. Silver Dual Coil 510 Tank Cartomizer - 6ml | DCT Tank 6ml - E Cig : Joye eGo & eGo-T | Boge Leo | Cartomizers | E-Liquid | Electronic Cigarettes | eGo Tank. They come in different colors. Vapingzone has 10% off through today with the code 10off. You can also find these just about anywhere.

I'm lost. I got the vmax, and I think I am in over my head. I went from the twist to this...it is a world of difference. I can't use the vivi novas even at the lowest voltage (burnt wick taste with the 2.4 heads and 2.8) so I started using the dct that came with it. Reads at 2.5. Obviously, cartos are the way to go with this unit. But what kind of cartos should I be using if I want to use a tank? Single coil? Dual coil? 2.5 or 3 ohm? So much to process...need help. Somebody make it simple...please?
Thanks in advance for your tips. I really love this thing...I want to know how I can make the most of it.

Thank you! I feel like an idiot with this device. I was just starting to think I knew a little bit with the twists, but I am back to square one with this bad boy. It kind of makes me sad to think that I won't be using my vivi novas anymore-I can't get rid of the burny wick taste, no matter what resistance head I use. But there are some advantages to not using wick based systems...carto tanks are purty, and I LOVE the crackling sound!

I think you have to keep in mind the other factors in good vaping, like juice on the coil... burnt taste can be not enough juice as easily as poor vapor from too much juice.
I use RBA's, tanks, atomizers and I guess you just have to find one or two things that work and stick with it while experimenting with different things.
I don't use carto's but i would go with an SR 2.5 to 3.0 Ohm and start low voltage, work up if needed.
These Vmax are for real and they pack a wallup.
