Well if you have a v4 then you can wait for a few more revisions of te ZMAX ...it's a great mod but the v4 is aswell "just VW is missing".

And I got mine from watching your review on the MAX....thanks again ..super mod

This is why I'm waiting and for price to drop a bit.

If it gets closer to Vavg it will be a winner [unlikely, in code of chip I’m thinking], ugly but I’d get one, post here if anyone sees a test of it.

I have one in transit now, just got the "shipped" notice this morning.
It might be ugly, but it's unique, and the troubleshooting will be easier :p besides, if the clear tube becomes too scratched/cracked/otherwise damaged, I imagine that it'd be easy to remove the board and put it a box-style house, like a gripper.
Being it's just ZMax guts in a clear tube, I doubt it will be any different than the chrome/SS Z's.
I did notice on the pics that MV has, you can see a silkscreen that shows V1.1, anyone have any insight? Any teardowns on production Z's that show or mention that?

It should be real easy to wrap it if desired.

i tested one with ECD last night..

i give up on VV mode entirely, same as vmax basically ..
only tested it with a 1.8Ω.
single battery mode it tops out at about 13W full charge .. changes on whether battery
is charged or not.

3 to 15W single battery (full AW imr 18650)
6 (3W setting)
6.9 (4W ..)
7.7
8.5
9
9.7
10.2
10.9
11.2 (yay .. this is close to 11W)
11.9 (even closer to 12)
12.2
12.4
12.5

3 to 15W dual battery (full charge aw imr 18350)
9 (3W setting)
10 (4W .. you get the idea)
11
12
13
14
15
15.6
16.3
16.9
17.5
18.2
19W

so for me .. i like 6.5W, only mode it's useable is power mode with a single cell.
if you like lots of watts, go dual battery, if not .. single battery.

Stonemull,

So the 3 watt setting actually outputs 6 watts?

Okay, here are my very quick first impressions. I have been using the ZMax for about 30 minutes with an IMR 18350 1500mah battery I bought last year from bestinone. The eFest 2000mah that came with the ZMax is in the charger to make sure it is full. I bought a chrome unit from Pink Mule in Spain. Received it eight days after placing the order and seven days after they shipped it (not bad for Spain to Thailand). I normally don't like chromed items, but the chrome ZMax looks very nice if you like a shiny, mirror type fniish. The unit feels surprisingly heavy with the battery installed. It feels substantial and not at all cheap. The hot spring is tight and it took me about four or five times to get the cap on, but I don't think the threads are as bad as people keep saying they are. Could the threading be better, yes? Is it adequate for a device at this price point, I think so. Using a Vivi Nova tank with a 1.8 ohm head (ZMax says it is 2.1 ohms) I have it set for 6.0 watts, which would be about 9.5 watts according to the chart above. Before getting the unit I calculated that I was vaping around nine to ten watts, so the chart above would seem to be accurate and I found the spot I like vaping at. When I first put the battery into the ZMax is was set to power mode and was at 5.0P (5 watts). I don't know if this normal or the vendor tested it before shipping. I am getting substantially more vapor than other devices I currently have set at around the same wattage based on voltage setting and resistance (ego twist and vv350). I would say so far the ZMax is a more satisfying experience. It does keep firing the carto ater you let go of the button like others have said but I would estimate this to be around 1/4 of a second and no more than 1/2 a second (doesn't bother me in the slightest). The button is firm and substantial and gives me tactile feedback. My only negative would be that it is a little difficult to get the timing right to enter the menu mode, and you cannot press the button too quickly as it will not register. You need to wait a beat between presses to get it to go to the next menu item. Once I get used to the timing I think it will no longer be an issue. My ZMax came with very good fit and finish and the lcd display cover is completely flush with the tube and seated perfectly. Overall first impressions is that it is a good quality device at a fair price point (I paid about $120 after coupon discount with a free eFest 18650 2000mah battery included) and that I am very happy with my purchase of the ZMax.

Stonemull,

it does with a single battery on 1.8Ω .. it will be less on a on a full battery, it will be a lot more on dual batterys.
it is what it is .. as a mod it is quite good, I liked the feel of it, sent it on to its owner now as it was only sent to me for some quick testing.
just use the numbers as in indication..

On 6.5P I think I am getting about 10 watts. I don't really care if the number is not accurate. Once you find what you like on the power setting you just leave it there and use it. It is a solid feeling mod and does not feel cheap in any way to me.

Here is some comprehensive numbers on the ZMAX for you, folks :) :

Smoktech ZMAX (

If you want to get the whole text, you might want to use Google translator on it, as it is in German.

But as far as the numbers is concerned - it's numbers, so no translation needed :).

So the regulation is worse than the Vmax?
Great...

That file is from the Review I just pointed to :).

The regulation is worse (overall even more too high output) than VMAX in 2x18350 VV Mode. Also, forget about 2x18350 VW Mode.

18650 VW mode is pretty usable, while 18650 VV mode is more accurate than VMAX, but quite weak (will not get fire 1.4 Ohm atty higher than 4.7V effective voltage).

Again, check here for all the numbers (and probably use Google translate on it):

I posted that whilst you did - got to learn how to type faster!

3 watts on a 2.6ohm carto/atty = 8.1 watts
3 watts on a 1.4ohm carto/atty = 13 watts

Not very consistent is it?
