I will try it (as molten pieces of battery and noxious fumes overtake him)...

They do appear to be made of some kind of bi-metal alloy, so I can take your word for it.

The spring reacts so quickly the battery will not be damaged, but the spring will glow red hot and then shrink down to nothing.

From my limited knowledge of springs, cutting a loop off also increases the spring's rate... is this not so much of an issue in this application?
Just curious, as my clearmax doesn't have the same type of spring, and I'm just an interested bystander. Kinda filing away info for future reference, when I likely purchase a real zmax.

My Zmax 2 arrived today. I'm using it with an 18650 and extender cap. It's stainless steel. A few things I noticed - the centre pin looks less in diameter than the v1. There are no vent slits down the sides. I was expecting there would be so that was a surprise. I'm in RMS mode and vaping at 6 watts with Belgian waffle juice. That's higher than I used to vape it on the v1, so I put that down to RMS.
I'm not getting the PWMS "purring sound" when it fires that was reported in one review I saw. It's actually very quiet.

Fieldofvapor has reviewed the Zmax:

Some thoughts I had after watching it. Not a bad review overall, except most of the time he kept using LR attys which didn't make sense in terms of showing what its best for. He says it misfires using a LR 1.2 ohm on it. It won't work with under 1.2 ohms - it's designed not to. And it can cut off approaching that. So that was all a bit of a mismatch in the review IMO.

He says you have to fire to check ohms - I don't and it has been accurate on the ohms on my Zmax1 and Zmax 2.
The side grooves on mine aren't sharp. I've read another review where some-one said they were a bit sharp, but others have said theirs aren't.
RMS is something only recently added to the general vaping knowledge base. So there are a lot of devices prior to this that don't have it. It's commendable to see that it's been added.
I leave my Zmax 1 standing up all the time and it hasn't had wobbles or fallen over. My Zmax 2 also stands up fine. I have it standing up now.

He did say its the best mod he's bought in the last year, and he did recommend it.

Dude obviously doesn't know that steel is actually lighter than a lot of metals, also a lot of unnecessary complaining about the screen not being oled.

Yes! Some types of chrome are heavier than stainless steel. I noticed that too. Also - bit of a fuss about $6 for an extender. I mean there's a mod that charges $24 for theirs. Not knocking the other mod, but $6 isn't a big deal to me.

My GF broke my vmax, and I'm in dire need of a replacement V/Zmax.
Been trying to find out the difference between Zmax v1 an v2?
What does the RMS do, and how does it compare to the Vmax?
I can get the Zmax v1 for about the same price as the Vmax, should I go for V1 or pay 2x for the V2?
Thanks!

RMS gives you much more accurate settings. The voltage or wattage you set will be pretty much what you get. Without RMS the devices use AVG (sometimes called MEAN) and the actual vape is at a higher voltage or wattage than what you set on the device. To put it more plainly, RMS is much more accurate.

Well that's not worth paying double IMO.
Any other differences compared to Vmax (except the power setting and 18650 batteries)?
Thanks!
