That's about twice the price of the windows laptop i got last month (600gig hard drive with 8gig of ram), Tibs. You can set up an XP partition on a Windows 7 computer or Windows 8.1 computers have back compatibility. I was able to install all but one of the of XP programs that wouldn't run in Windows 7. I went ahead and had win8.1 put on my work desktop too, it doesn't matter at all that the desktop doesn't have a touch screen.

But that's me. In the end it's personal preference. Some people love Macs. I'm not one of em. I don't hate them either....they are just way overpriced IMHO. But get one if you want. RAM, Graphics speed and Drive space are major factors in any computer (multi-tasking is nice too ;))

I kinda like the new "it's a laptop, it's a tablet" things....If I ever win the lottery and have $$$$ to burn. They are touch-screen tablets with keyboards that detach if you wish and they clam-shell fold into a laptop.

Limited power and storage...but compared to what you are used to....still a mega upgrade. Let me find some links.....Bbiab.

OK. The macbook air PCs get good reviews. Can't tell ya much about macs though.

So you want Mac because you think it's safer....

If it makes you feel more comfortable, that's a win. I don't want to prejudice you.

IDK how much safer it is...you still want virus protection. But it's probably safer than Windows just because Win is more popular. That doesn't mean safe though....just safER.

OK, Maybe check the "air" series too and compare. IDK if weight matters to you.

The "air" series is more expensive but your needs are...modest so you don't have to have the top one.
I like that config you listed also.
IDK if you want to add the wireless mouse or not.
Also, I'd opt for an SSD over a larger HDD if you don't think you will have to store a lot. They don't fail as fast. They have come down in price quite a bit. No moving parts. :) but....I wouldn't get less than 128 GB these days. Depends on how much you want to store.
Make sure whatever you get is haswell processor, not the older one (older is on the 13 inch displays).

Cool. I'd get an SSD if I could. But that's me. If it mostly sits on a table/counter then it's not much concern to have an HDD and it is more storage for the $$$$ than SSD.

It ships with "Mountain Lion" but the next software version is a free upgrade:
OS X Mavericks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

while i'm leaning toward a mac i hate to make decisions under duress! ;)

quickbooks opened in safe mode this morning but the print spooler won't load. then i found this
Print In Winxp Safe Mode. - Windows XP - All Editions - The Elder Geek on Windows

if i can print in safe mode i wouldn't feel all that rushed and can take my time weighing pros and cons :D

so - my question, atty - should i give this fix a try?
