The university isn't going to allow any XP computers on the network after april 8th. argh. I'd heard that the larger banks that are using XP to run ATMs are going to pay microsoft for continued security updates to avoid having to upgrade.
Just a side note....
You can't imagine (well, probably can't) how that type of thing just blows away us old computer geeks when we think about the old days. I am constantly amazed at how fast that tech progresses. For the cost of your laptop years ago....you couldn't have gotten much more than what some fancy calculators have now. Your laptop is 1000 x more amazing than what I started on.
I started on stuff with:
A monochrome monitor (CRT) with 80x25 text
16 kb of memory
1 mHz 8 bit CPU (I think)
The "snazzy" ones we had at school, had floppy disc drives rather than some cassette tape

Kind of amazing. When i was in college, people taking computer courses were using punch card to program in cobal.
My first computer was a hand-me-down from my mom, only a dos shell and minimal word processing.

Yes. I know the ways of fryer oil. But the occasion to actually USE it is very infrequent. And I (note: "I") will not use it over and over "just because". The last thing WE need is deep-fried foods. And "we" means EVERYBODY... even YOU (and you and you and you and ESPECIALLY you).
