Yeah, but he knows his income for the year ahead of time. Grrrr.

Why don't they just freaking let you sign up and settle it later at tax time? Or just sign up if you make $2.00 per year? No, they force you into welfare for everything (I think). Besides, Medicaid sucks.

he is also estimating - he has no idea how his investments will perform in 2014

that's more than a lol, frannie - that bear outdid himself :D

Thank you! Thank you very much! :)

lol. So I was just thinking about that push here to open thing the other day. But it was a "tear here" thing...just as bad. They seldom tear properly.

Like this? ...

My investments could tank or skyrocket. It's not part of the equation.

I'm doing controlled distributions, keeping any capital gains at or below 16K for the year. And since the gains are "only" between 15-20% of any distribution, it means I could take APPROXIMATELY 80K-106K to live on... which I do not need AT ALL. So... what will happen at tax time is my MAGI will be way below 16K. Now THAT may prove interesting... or not. (It's too late in the day to get into scenarios.)

Yeah. But I think I'm entitled...from what I estimate now....but I can't prove it. They want me to prove a future prediction (and asked for information.)

WTHeck?

something doesn't seem right - maybe utilize one of those navigators?

On the NY exchange, there is a question along the way that wants to know if 2014 income will be similar to 2012 (yes, 2012). I, of course, said "no".

There is then a series of questions about projected 2014 income. They followed the 1040 form pretty much re: all sources of income (taxable interest, capital gains, state refunds, etc etc etc etc etc). I just put in the applicable-in-2014 numbers from 2012, and used capital gains making up any difference to make the total exactly 16K.

They asked for no proof at all along the way. They HAVE proof because they DO have access to your 2012 information. Job income, unemployment income, and all the rest. But since I said "no" to "will 2014 be similar to 2012", it seemed to satisfy the system.

If you do the $16K thing, you will be eligible for "cost sharing"... and you NEED TO GO WITH SILVER to get ANY cost-sharing benefits.
