There aren't a ton of 'artists' these days that can hold a tune. The 'old school' methods of vocal instruction (more formal) are gone.
Sure, there's always been variation in the artist-spectrum. But these days, holding a note isn't 'in style' anyway.
I had a supervisor who is also a musician. His wife is an opera singer...and vocal coach. She also had 'perfect pitch' and could identify a proper note by hearing it (converting the sound frequency to our traditional note scale mentally 100% of the time with no other references...accurately). Basically a human auto-tuner.
I sing flat every time. lol. I can't sing a lick. But I usually know someone that's trained when I hear them. That's why all this sloppy stuff just "bugs" me. It's not that I can't appreciate the talent or enjoy the music. It's more like a basketball player that refuses to practice free-
throws because "meh" he doesn't care.
If singing is your profession, practice holding a note and getting it right.
