There's a normal desktop that I use mostly.

I only use the "other screen" as a "menu" or "start screen" instead of a "start menu". It's no big deal. You'll adjust, Fran. Kicking and screaming, but you'll adjust.

I only use the "Desktop" view; basically the same as Win7

Can't get used to the wide screen. And it's very glossy, but I don't like matte screens as I read for a living, so I need a good sharp contrast...

Change is hard.

Unmonitored was supposed to be a (bad) pun.

As to the other, IDK. My "new" monitor took some adjusting to the wide screen aspect (that I like) but contrast is great. Have you right-clicked on the desktop and adjusted stuff in adapter settings or whatever? (IDK what your graphics card is, but I have an AMD Control Center option)
