IMO, avoiding crawlspaces is generally a reasonable choice ;)

The pipes in my crawlspace are wrapped (except for the one that goes to the front hose outlet, the crawlspace is very very small at the front of the house, so i didn't go there). I think the outgoing line to the sewer got a little icy this last time- but doesn't seem to have broken. whew.

I have gone in those crawlspaces and that's exactly why I don't anymore. There are people that do that for a living and I'm more than willing to pay them for the service.:)

it is. At least the 'always something" does not appear to be my wireless adapter anymore. Re-installing the drivers seems to have fixed it. Atty, you asking me how I knew that i had the right drivers prompted me to search a bit more, and find that the right drivers can still be corrupted, so thanks.
