and the word from the vet - doing as well as can be expected :?:

urine is being generated so that's a good thing. the vet tech thought tom was in much better shape when brought in than most of the other cases she's seen. but that doesn't mean much - we're in a rural area and most don't find their way to vet till the last minute

I'm the pessimist.

:p

I'm starting to be. That stupid pulley has four HOLES on the front, not bolts. So I think I have the wrong pump. However, I also think it's solvable if I can find either 4 bolts that go into the current pulley (and can get it off) or go to a junkyard and get a bolt-on pulley.

P.S.
It didn't come with bolts. IDK if I can exchange it now that I've gunked it and the gasket up.

Kidneys are functioning!!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (however much).
They'll do some tests later, I'm guessing.
Poor cat.

Good work getting him in 1st thing. :)

Yet again, timing is everything.

I'm out of patience for today.

Pump still not off....1 hose is giving me a fit.

On the Weather front (is that a pun?), we have possible record lows tonight and tomorrow. (-8 forecast).
It's so bad that all this cold weather (even with snow on top) has frozen several water mains in the nearby city. There's sink holes popping up now in at least 2 or 3 spots. I don't suppose the record lows the next two days will help much.

Now, I distinctly remember some occasional days of -20 below. Not all that uncommon. However, these consistent single-digit (or near) temps have taken their toll. Not to mention that they probably need to replace some old main lines.

I have succeeded in taking the battery out of the lawn mower and moving it inside. At least I accomplished something today. ;)

timing would have been more beneficial in your case ;) catching failing car parts early always guarantees full success!

not so in this blockage thing - 80% of the cats relapse :( but i shall follow my own advice and not worry ahead of time ;)

    now cooking supper!

    I bet the doctor will
    A) Give you instructions on new diet or whatever they can do to mitigate this
    B) Give you a kitty-cath and maybe some instruction on cath-ing him (can you do that when they are awake?) and maybe a sedative pill to give him if you have to do it in an emergency.

Maybe you should ask about options. That's a nasty way to go if it can't be treated.

Poor kitty. Poor Tibs. to both of ya.

I had a cat many years ago that would get a blocked bladder from crystals forming. They switched his diet to some outrageously expensive brand from the Vet and he was good to go.
Tibbies, have they said anything about blockage from his bladder? Kidneys would still be functioning but kitty would not be able to get rid of the urine. Bladder fills up and can overflow into the bloodstream, creating sepsis.

poor atty - got to be something else to work in those temps :(

lost - the blockage was there - his bladder was pretty big and needed relief right away. i expect i might have to check with dil to find a vet in durham/raleigh for follow-up. our vet is a good, solid country vet and tom is getting the gold standard of treatment atm - catheter and iv hydration. but he might not be the best choice for what's to come after. he has no ultrasound or scans available. i'll worry about that when the time comes. first we need to see if tom will eat, drink and pee by himself.
