It all depends on how you photoshop it and how much additional color information is in the environment around it. The image that shows to me as almost pale blue and brown also looks overexposed around the edges. Normally, we use environmental cues to interpret colors, and there are perceptual mechanisms that allow us to still see red as red across a variety of lighting conditions (color constancy). Environmental cues tell us what color it 'should' be, otherrwise our brains fill in the blanks. That last is the basis for a number of optical illusions.

BTW, NPR reported that the designer says the dress is blue and black, (so someone did a terrible job of photgraphing it.)

I'm kinda stunned by how much attention its been getting.

not all...

Beau, my boss, sees it as white and gold, he is 31...his Dad (about 5 years older than me) sees it as blue and black
Angela is a couple of years younger than me but sees it as blue and black
