I'm glad you're able to visit your dad so often, Dale

I took a nice walk over to the mississippi- it's a little over a mile from here. Lots of people out walking and jogging and going to work. Saw two vapers :)
Just a matter of making the effort CES ;)

How cool, I never meet other vapers :(

    Grrrrrrrrrrd morning.

My landline out of service since yesterday 09h00.
Checked trouble ticket number last night online: "in progress".
Checked trouble ticket number this morning online: "no tickets on record".

    grrr

Called "tech support" (as it SAYS... "tech support")... ticket is "in progress".
No reason given why it does not work online.

THEN... THEN!!!... they try to UPSELL ME to other services!!!

Let's see... I am having problems with the service I *do* have... and they want to sell me MORE of their problematic services!!!

I was having NONE of that... it's TECH SUPPORT... NOT "sales"... and that upselling effort is VERY misplaced.

    Escalated to supervisor.
    Echoed the previous person.

    Escalated to the supervisor's supervisor.
    Echoed the previous person.

    GRRR! SLAM!!!

Call to corporate headquarters planned for 08h30.

    Bear,

I got to the point of not trusting the POTS lines anymore. Now on Comcost's "Triple-Play"...using cable as a land-line alternative and have a backup cell phone. Also, make sure you have a backup-battery (I use a general-purpose UPS) on the phone-modem if you go that route. Of course, cable goes out sometimes too.

    POTS?

Not-really-"HUS"bear has the DSL on his line, which is working. He pays for the "up to" 6mb
service, but we get, on average, about 1.25mb. "Nothing we can do" they say because of the
distance to switching station. Next door folks are on cable, the "up to" 12mbs service and they
    get less than 1mbs.

Our only hope is that fiber comes to the area. (HA!) Or, the phone company upgrades their
    service. (Double HA!)

There is always satellite internet, but we have read it is also pretty much :censored:.

Before the FTC (thankfully) put the kibosh on the merger, there was a time when TWC was going to be merged with Comcost. Anyway, I think they have similar services.

By the time you add up your DSL bill, and phone bills, you may be able to justify the service. Just don't cut all over at once...test it out in parallel first since it sounds like you have TWO phone lines. So you can cut only one over to start and see how it goes. I bet you can end up with cable and phone and internet for nearly the same cost you now have without cable. Might be worth checking.
