don't think your beasties would benefit but there are some specialty brushes that claim to work 
i never tried them but remember the mountains of hair i brushed out with a regular brush from cassie, max and bucky

A vacuum works a little bit....it would work more, but it doesn't please the beasties. They love to be brushed

have you tried a small beater brush attachment? that might simulate a massage and be more to the beasties' taste? 
they don't like the sound of the vacuum. it's just too loud. My other beastie was happy to be vacuumed- cause it meant he got attention

Gentle brushing with a slicker brush is probably best.
