Having read the NYT article about Amazon yesterday, I'm not sure I want to order anything from them again. ;)
Yeah, that was weird.
IDK. Some stuff just doesn't 'jive' to me. IDK how people could be working 80 hour weeks as "normal". The news reports (NBC?) didn't go into the details of who-what-when-how-often.
Wouldn't surprise me if some of it wasn't "sweat shop" mentality from management though, with all those "pickers" working. That's typical worker exploitation in rough times. And a lot of the quotes were typical rah-rah BS like "Excited to be working here"...ahem...("under high pressure and long hours" omitted). Management reply: Gee golly whiz...."Doesn't sound like the exciting place I know it to be...." "His management style doesn't like excuses".

IDK. Kinda lack of specifics except for a handful of incidents. Are those the norm, or the exception?

Camper is done, Final bill is 998. It's in line with the $80 more a wheel that camper guy said and it needed one new bearing. Still a big ouch.
    Ouch Fran!! :(
At least you get to go on your favorite camping trip :)

YOU could use the rain? ....

Don't know the specifics myself--only what I read, but they did build a warehouse without AC and had people work in 100 degree heat until they collapsed. They had ambulances waiting outside, though.

That incident was well documented locally--when the press intervened, Amazon installed AC and dismissed the paramedics.

OK. Do you know if that was just a "timing problem" and they "pushed through it"? Do you consider it unreasonable? Are you basically saying they worshiped dollars more than people and shouldn't have made them work? (I'd agree).

I don't care what kind of problem it was... You don't make people work until they collapse from heat exhaustion. You just don't.

not that i see how but there are plenty of people working in those temps without ac :?:

Perhaps--I don't know what the exact temperature was and how long they had to work, or whether they had enough water and adequate breaks. But once they start collapsing and need to be taken away in ambulances...

I don't think quoting an article makes me an idiot. I included the link, after all.......

Ummmm... some weather-guy used "godzilla el nino" a couple weeks ago,
and now that is all ANYBODY is saying.

THAT GUY is the idiot to which I referred.
