Bear,

THAT is how the "housing bubble" (real-estate inflation) happened. It's all about "property value" under the guise of "oh look...your investment went up in value." A house is not really an investment, it's really an expense. Sure, it has value. But this expectation of it constantly going up (supposedly due to less land and increasing demand) creates this "bubble" effect.

So it's a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it's worth more. On the other, they charge more.

You could suggest contesting the assessment.

The woman next door (not elderly one) has done it three - maybe four - times.
And she has accomplished NOTHING for herself or family. And let me tell you,
she goes in LOADED with backing material. They all just sit there with blank
looks on their faces, then laugh in their "special way".

I warned her a few months ago:

We finished watching all 254 episodes of "Bewitched" (one per dinner-night) last night.

Starting Joan Rivers' "That Show" tonight.

Have full set of "I Love Lucy" waiting (including the "Comedy Hour" shows, last 3 years).

I want to get the "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" box set, but refuse to pay the current
asking price on Amazon.

Dinner done here. Rotisserie chicken, salad, rolls, mixed veg. Somebody (Dale) got me hungry for it the other day.
On a cooking-reputation-salvation note, I did make homemade rolls to go with it (mostly because I chose not to pick any up).
Made a mini-loaf along side too. Was "OK". (I blame Dale for any dough irregularities too. Just because.) I kick myself if I don't use dough conditioners. Flavor and crust was good though. Crumb was just a little dense.
