SilverBear's Gas and Electric Monthly Post [tm]:

Brief analysis: "doing well".

This past month:
-24.0% less electricity compared to 10-year same-month average
-23.9% less natural gas compared to 10-year same-month average

Previous bill:
-17.6% $$$ compared to 10-year same-month average (w/ -33.1% electricity, +6.4% gas)

(Electricity number may change if they come to do an "actual read" in a few days. Which brings up a rant... but I'll save it for "only if asked".)

Amended due to actual electric read:
This past month:
-13.7% less electricity compared to 10-year same-month average (down from 24.0% above)
-23.9% less natural gas compared to 10-year same-month average
-12.1% less bill compared to 10-year same-month average

<grr>

The utility begs and beseeches us to provide readings with numerous ways to submit them.
Phone, internet, mobile app, e-Mail w/ photos of dials. But yet, they send an actual human
being to walk the route, encroaching on property, drawing an income, to take readings. I
can't stop them from doing the electric... the meter is outside. But I do NOT allow them in
the house to do the gas. I tell them I have submitted the reading as they beg and beseech me,
so there is no reason to come into my home. Or... I simply ignore the doorbell. Depends on
how ornery and difficult I feel that day.

In the "big city", they have RF transmitters for electricity and gas, so all they have to do is
drive by. Must be us sticks-dwellers do not rate. Makes no sense. "Big City" is densely
populated, so they would get more bang for the buck having somebody actually walk around,
disregarding crime and pitbulls. Out here... maybe 10 houses per mile. Seems to me the RF
method would be more efficient, personnel-wise.

Or, I'm looking at it the wrong way.

No story. Just an astute observation. *WE* do not have them here.

Man, it's hot outdoors. Gave pots their last watering for 2015. :(

Now to do something with the aquarium... indoors and air conditioned.

albeit a wrong one :D you can't get more rural than here! 30 000 people on 830 square miles

did you ever ask your utility why you're so much behind the times?

    -1 internet for "albeit"

I tell the turned-away meter readers to take my comments back to their management.

nope ;) what's growing out of his chin is way more than whiskers! :D

How do you know it's not Miss Bristles?

Just did 25% water change. And cleaned the glass with one of those magnetic razor things.
And swooshed filter media. Watching temperature right now. Gotta clean the light fixture.

^ I'm sure @AttyPops will figure it out.

You/I could postulate that rural houses are often further away from the street and RF tech is limited by regs to a certain distance and that even if they got 80% they'd still have to send a real person for the remaining 20% so they just use real people for all of it. Electric meters could use the electric lines (pulsing signals somehow back to a receiver at the street) but gas or water....well....

We could postulate that. If we were postulating. But we're not.

    Hi all. Flyby hi-bye.
