    the day is not going well :(

    unexpected update on petey and surgery happening right now:

    ''Petey update: His condition progressed overnight. Full paralysis in hind limbs. CT scan revealed a mineralized disc T11-12. In surgery now, expecting another update in the early afternoon.''

    Good thoughts for Petey and family. Hopefully, they can fix it today....Keep us posted, Tibs (((HUGS)))

    wonder if bear survived the friday :D

    Thank YOU for wondering, Tibs! Can always count on YOU, Tibs.

    There was a funny that happened at the "pasta dinner"... probably did not win me
    any new friends, but whatever! Not everybody has my sense of humour. Evidently.

    I shall share later. Out to do a little more yard stuff.

    Just a slight surface frost.

    Then it's NOT "Native American" Summer.

    From "The Old Farmers' Almanac":

    Here are criteria for an [Native American] Summer:
    • As well as being warm, the atmosphere during [Native American] Summer is hazy or smoky, there is no wind,the barometer is standing high, and the nights are clear and chilly.
    • A moving, cool, shallow polar air mass is converting into a deep, warm, stagnant anticyclone (high pressure) system, which has the effect of causing the haze and large swing in temperature between day and night.
    • The time of occurrence is important: The warm days must follow a spell of cold weather or a good hard frost.

    Just sayin'.

    OK... these "church things" always have raffles or "Chinese Auctions" (please! save it... that's
    what THEY call them). But the piece de resistance last night was a feature auction. The
    dinner was to raise money for "Coats For Kids". The big item was a $500 gift certificate for
    a professional "portrait session".

    The photographer was there, and gave a little speech, etc etc etc, before the auction.

    So... they began the auction with an opening bid of $25. "Do we hear $50?" ...

    :: crickets ::
    :: tumbleweeds ::

    Do we hear $40???!!!???!!!

    :: deafening silence ::

    And that's when I started to stifle a laugh.

    Can we hear $30???!!!???!!!

    :: dust bunnies ::

    And that's when my laugh came out through my nose... loudly.

    I tried, really, I did. It just happened.

    I got a few stares... and a couple of glares.

    The $500 certificate did not even sell for $25.01

    ... Hus was a bit mortified... these were "his people" and all.

    But he "gets" my sense of humour... and agreed it was funny (when we were in the car
    driving home).

    He's over at the church now, setting up for tomorrow's after-mass kuchen, cookies and coffee
    gathering (as he does every week). Wonder if anybody will say anything.

    I'll let you know.

    PS: The pasta "servings" may have been = 1 or 2 dry ounces of pasta. And overcooked, as I
    knew it would be.

    ~~~~~ Snails.
    Just got caught up on my The Big Bang Theory episodes. Free on CBS.com. You must pay for service on the Roku. Odd that. Nice of CBS to let you catch up like that. Kudos to them. Have to enable ads, but I'm OK with that in this case as they are well screened normal ads (TV commercials).
    Beats putting ped-egg shavings on your pasta for a joke.......
    It was that canned "green can" stuff. I picked one that still had the seal intact.
    But that does not mean some disgruntled factory worker didn't toss a Dr. Scholl's
    insole into the grater.
    ohhhh !!
    That's sad !
    Sad, hell!!! It was hysterical. :laugh:
    What is sad is people THESE DAYS are happy with a cell phone selfie rather
    than a professional portrait. $500... and nobody wanted it for even $25.01.
    It think THAT says a lot.
    While I felt a LITTLE bad for the photographer, I'd like to think the OTHER
    people's (non-)actions spoke louder than my snort-laugh. It was a CHARITY
    thing, for crying out loud! Buy it and give it as a gift!!! (I was too busy biting
    a lip to even think about it.)
