@oldbikeguyHow to Show the Computer Icon on the Desktop in Windows 7
1. Right-click the Desktop and then click Personalize from the menu that appears.
2. When the Personalization Control Panel window appears, click the Change desktop icons link on the left pane.
The Desktop Icon Settings dialog box will open. The Desktop Icon Settings dialog box has only one tab, Desktop Icons.
In the Desktop Icons section you will find a list of icons that are available for the Desktop.
Most if not all of the icons should be unchecked, meaning that they are not displayed on the Windows Desktop. What we are doing here is checking the Computer icon so that it appears on the Desktop.
Note: If you find other icons on the list that you would like to see on the Desktop feel free to add them, it's your computer after all.
3. Click to add a check to Computer and click OK to save the changes and to close the dialog box.
When you return to the Desktop you will find the handy Computer icon in its place.
Before Atty pops me up side the head for being ungrateful ... I appreciate your efforts
I did follow your step-by-step instructions, when I opened the Icon it showed the same thing as when I open Computer.
That is my kind of instruction tho
Oh, and I learned I have Vista ...
Sorry to hear about your neighbor FranOld guy across the road is the source of my aggravating company but I don't wish him any harm. He had a mild stoke 2 weeks ago and a blockage in his brain was found. They took him out on a stretcher. Can't be good.
Hope he'll be okay

That's what dad wants ... not sure how I feel about that.
