The other thing I need to research is long-term storage, and what happens once a gallon is opened. I assume VG is more volatile, but that's just a hunch.
I keep mine in the freezer,so far so good :)

    Morning Snails :)

... just little odds and ends in RW, in rapid succession, that seem to add up ...
    :glare:

Maybe I'll treat MYSELF to a propane tank refill. Because I'm worth it.
    :glare:

Took two (2) tanks for refills. PAID in store $9.99+tx each. Schlepped to the side
of the store for refilling. Guy gives them a close-up inspection and says the tanks
have "expired... many years ago". No rust, still-gleaming paint job on them, grill
grease-drip-free. But, they are "expired". (I may mention, these have been
refilled annually at another place.) (I may mention, also, it's about 105% humidity
    out there.)

Ended up trading one "expired" tank for a new(er) tank, filled. But the price was
different, and NOT ($9.99+tx)*(2). Schlepped full and empty tank back to the car
and then had to go back INTO the store (and wait in line) to make up the price
difference. I could easily have just driven off.

Took the "expired" tank to the usual place and had it filled, no problem. Interesting.

Could I have been "had" at the first place???

    OK...

"Propane tanks do expire. Federal law requires re-certification after 12 years from the original manufacture date.
A coded date is stamped into the carrying handle of the tank. The tank expires at the end of the month of the
date stamped. They will refuse to re-fill an expired tank."

The one Country Max refused - and the "usual place" refilled - says 03 - 16E.

Wonder if those 3 extra months will mean an explosion in the garage overnight?
I'll keep it away from the free-range 18650 charger.

Don't they do exchange programs in your area?

When used up, just exchange it for another one. They'll filter the old one out at the "refill factory".

Hardly anyone just "refills" tanks anymore. Luddite. :D

The point was THE TANK IS OLD...therefore, ego, thus....YOU MUST EXCHANGE. Then refill for anther X years. Easy solution.
This "tank expiration" thing is all new to me... and I (along with former "we")
have been refilling grill tanks since around 1978. I've never, ever, even heard
of expiring tanks. I've gotten rid of old ones (rusty)... and I had to go through
a valve exchange thing many moons ago. But I've never been told "your tank
has expired, it's unclean, take it back, euw ick you white trash".

MAYBE they've exchanged it under my nose, sight unseen. They refill while I
shop. Dunno. But it's all new to me!!!
