Another Friday and here's hoping everybody here has a good one.

And... another (4th consecutive) soggy one out there. Enough now
that the sump pump finally kicked in. Which leads to...

...the Oreo/Sheba cat food can had water on top of it. I was not
yet lucid, but the only thing that popped into my head was a leak
due to all the rain. (Then started an internalized panic about the
work that SHOULD be done on the basement wall... and that it's
finally failing... and the cost... etc etc etc.)

Just went back down to investigate further. The 5 cans in ONE
stack all had traces of water. The cans on either side were all
dry. The wet cans are directly under the main electrical panel
(by inches). It's dry... the wall is dry... there is no wet spot on
the floor. So, I don't know where the water came from. I put
a single layer of paper towels over the cans and will keep an eye
on it. :?:

(Local weatherperson mentioned a long and loud thunderstorm
last night. I heard nothing. Hubs heard nothing.)

Traces? Can the cats get to the cans? (water on chin while sniffing out cans?) (SWAG)

The electric lines must come in at some point, Bear. They are either underground or overhead, but they go through a hole into the house by the panel somewhere.

It's worth investigating that area and maybe calking around the opening to stop any blowing rain from getting anything wet. But watch out you don't go touching wet stuff in that panel, and also open it up and just LOOK and see if anything is wet there.

Well, I'm doing the wait-and-see thing... put paper towels over the cans and will check
every few hours to look for any drips. (The "wet" had no odor, so it wasn't cat pee.)

And if it's the wall....is it cinder block, or is it poured?
That WALL is a whole other story. A bit convoluted to explain. But, it
felt dry in the very immediate area. The water HAD to come from
directly above that ONE stack of cans. The panel is about 5" above
the cans. No drips or residual water felt or seen.

Funny story about that stuff. Back when we first bought our place, there were very small holes around the kitchen pipes coming up from outside. Soon we found mouse droppings. Caught the mice (without harm to them, but that's another story about Marsha that is hysterical and I may get to tell it one day). Anyway, she was totally freaked out, went to HD and got a bunch of cans of this stuff. While I was in bed one night, she decided to use it. M is not one for reading directions, so she sprayed and sprayed and sprayed EVERYWHERE she could find the slightest opening, including bathrooms. Needless to say, the foam expanded and took up almost ALL of the space in the cabinets. I laughed for months about it, but not before having to cut that stuff out, which was NOT easy. For M, lesson learned. :D
