Morning (afternoon), Snails!
I hope it's not close to you (or anyone, really, but you particularly!).

The big fires are ~50 miles away, but we can see them (at night) and smell them 24/7.
Wow ! I know exactly where that is...it's a VERY dry area too.

This year, all of SoCal is a tinderbox.

Hugs and :nun: Katya :(

Thanks, Dale...
doing a rain dance for tweety! ;)

Keep dancing, Tibs. Not a cloud in the sky. Just howling winds--80 mph gusts--and 5% humidity. The air is so dry and filthy that it hurts to breathe. Haven't slept much either.

Might be time to go. It's not good to breath that crap in for a long time.

It's a mixture of pollutants usually brought here from the deserts by Santa Ana winds and smoke. The smoke comes and goes--my house was filled with acrid smoke twice, but it came from minor local brush fires, which seem to be popping up out of nowhere. But our FD deals with those swiftly. But those who live closer to LA are in real danger from smoke inhalation. It's a nightmare, Frannie. One of the fires is the size of D.C.--and only 5% contained. Our friends had to evacuate last night.

Oh Tweety I am so sorry and as of now I will be storming heaven with my prayers for all the folks there in California!

It's sad beyond belief, Gracie. People lose their homes, possessions, animals. And even if a house doesn't burn down, the combination of fire and water damage is tremendous.

Good luck tweety.

Are all these just random events because it's so dry?

Is CA full of water restrictions so they can't/don't water the grass and such? Is it mostly starting in those "sparse hills" that are natural areas? And then blowing around from those weird high winds?

This is California climate--we're semiarid, hilly and windy. Acres and acres of dry brush. The more water we get during the rainy season, the more vegetation (wild grasses, coyote brush, etc.) we get. When the rainy season ends (in early spring), all that growth dries up. We haven't had a drop of rain since April or so. And it's already December. Anything can start a wild fire--a cigarette .... thrown out of a passing car, power equipment, illegal bonfires, anything.

Yes we have water restrictions, but those wild ares are never watered. They just burn... And then come mudslides in the burn areas. That's our winter season.
