Words escape me, Frannie. I am so sorry...this is NOT fair to either of you. I wish you were close by. We would be there with you. Damn! Just damn! So much love coming your way and good thoughts for hubs to get his pain under control, so he can have some quality time with you.
Hospice will be a godsend to you and him. Talk to them when you need to. They are there for you, too..... Just DAMN!!!!!
He waited until after Christmas to go in. Maybe on purpose? Would be terrible to have that over Christmas.
What a brave soul your DH is Fran. I'm sure he's thinking of all of you at the same time he's going through this.

Life is fatal for us all, but your DH is brave as all heck (and so are you) and has been facing a lot of pain in his life. I hope hospice can help and that you and he get some quality time in, and can maybe see some sites or something. Enjoy the time as much as possible and as long as appropriate.
