They run on different lines or different fibers in the line. Something like that anyway.
And, like, this recent problem was the FIRST time thus guy (gal?)
ran into it?!?! Like, ummmm... NO! We've been through this
BEFORE, here, on his line. Either YES DSL / NO PHONE or
YES PHONE / NO DSL. Ugh!!! Grrr!!! It's BAD help, is what it is.

Grrr, again.

:)

I'm glad you're fixed now,Bear:)

But HOW can that BE?!?! HOW??? HOW???
They usually do that surgically.

They run on different lines or different fibers in the line. Something like that anyway.

Oh, you mean the DSL? ;) :D

Fran's right. They MAY use different wires. One set is analog, the others digital.

But they can filter an existing 2-wire line too (same as your phone). In THAT case, it was a problem on their end on how they mix the signals or at the switch (or something, I'm not an expert).

I suspect that since he's had problems before, they switched the DSL to the other pair of wires, but IDK that for sure or anything.

    Speaking of phones, mine "ported" without a problem. Still have same number. So, $122 off cable bill, and $60 for Hulu live and Netflix with a TON more stuff and live stuff, local channels. Oh, and phone is $6.20 a month. YIPPEE!!! Saving and getting loads more. Katmar is a happy camper right now. Thank you, Hulu!:thumbs:

    Good evening and goodnight Snails. Sleep well, sweet dreams and a better tomorrow for all :):wub:

    You sure you don't have two phone #'s Bear? Like for a Fax+DSL, and the other for "normal phone"?
    TWO landlines coming in.

    Mine = landline.

    Hubs' = landline+DSL

    TWO separate jacks in the outside JBox. (We know enough to check this due to
    previous problems.) One had dial tone (mine!), one had no dial tone (his) but
    allowed DSL service. There are two (count 'em, two) wires going into his jack.
    It's no convoluted Cray Computer.

    So, who the .... knows?

    I *LOATHE* the telephone.

    frannie might be right then - a wrong setting somewhere ;) because one thing for sure, you can get dsl without having a landline ;)

    Night Tibs.

    OK, so those two wires carry his DSL + landline and they weren't working.

    Where's the question?
    YOUR lines were working.
    His phone was not, so probably like AG said. Config stuff (I said it could be that too, to be fair to myself).

    He's probably got a "filter"/splitter on his landline to separate out the voice from the DSL. But if the line/config is fubar it's fubar. Hence no dialtone, but somehow he had DSL (the highband stuff). So it was messed up somewhere.

    Does that make sense? There's lowband for voice, and highband for data, and the two get "mixed" on the same line somewhere "out there" and that mixing wasn't working. That's why he'd have to put a filter/splitter on his line so that he could have a "phone" jack and a "data" jack.
