My beastie was a very good girl at the vet/PT. She was friendly and cuddly and allowed poking and stretching without complaint.
She is, other than her bad knee and some stiffness in her hips, in very good shape. The vet/PT agrees with non-surgical management. She also said that the braces don’t add that much (at least in our case) , so we don’t have to get a brace.
The basic plan is no running and no jumping. Which means that I either make the couches and bed inaccessible or that I make it so she gets up and down without jumping. The couch is gonna be tough, but the rest is really reasonable.
Her treatment plan includes walking a total of ~ 45 min/day in several increments, going up and down stairs and hills, and stepping over low obstacles (all while on a leash) . Even making her sit down and stand up is good. The idea is to make her use her leg in a controlled fashion so as to build up the scar tissue in the right way, make sure she doesn’t lose muscle mass, and so that she doesn’t rely only on the other leg and hurt it too.
I can set her up to get laser therapy to assist healing too- it’s not horribly expensive, so I may go for it. But other than that she can go back for reevaluation in 4-6 weeks.
