Absolutely terrible news. Apparently, I tore my lateral meniscus yesterday. It's preliminary, but all signs point to that. I spent about 5 hours at the emergency room yesterday. I'm on crutches and it makes everything very difficult to do. Just making a cup of coffee and getting it back to my desk is a challenge. Fortunately, I have a walk-in shower or I would need someone to give me a sponge bath (tibby?)--haven't had one of those since I was 7; my mom gave me those while a had a full cast on my right leg.

I will be contacting a orthopedic surgeon today for an appt as soon as possible.

I'm a very independent person and relying on others isn't in my nature. But doing things like washing clothes will be a major challenge. I can't carry anything and move. Putting any weight on my right leg is major pain. Not to mention everything I had scheduled for the rest of the year. It could literally cost me thousands and thousands of dollars. Majorly bummed.

ah, pepper! i'm so sorry  - what did you do for heaven's sake? are you sure you want to rush into surgery? some tears do heal with a more conservative treatment

No, no, no. Agreed on the surgery. I guess I should have said I'm going to see an orthopedic doctor/surgeon. And yes, some tears to heal. fortunately, this appears to be in the lateral meniscus and chances are blood flows through this cartilage area which will allow it to possibly heal.

I've had issues with this knee for probably the last 30 years--off and on. The last 3 weeks it been a little painful, so I have taken it easier on leg day: less weight, fewer reps. The emergency room doctor said I probably had a bunch of micro tears and it finally snapped. Fortunately, I wasn't doing squats, or it could have been worse.

I was at the end of my workout and working calves on calf extention machine. See video. I have long legs (versus what shorty has in the video.:D) which requires me to slightly bend my knees while working out on this machine. I was on my 2nd set when all of the sudden my knee popped. It didn't hurt. I felt more like when you crack your knuckles; however, when i applied pressure it hurt like heck.
