Yeah, whatever. I know... I had real bacon last wknd for the first time in months and it was so, so good. I'm thinking sage sausage this wknd with freshly made butter biscuits. That reminds me when I was a kid and we spent Christmas with my grandparents (dad's side). Grand Pa Pepper
would fry up some sage sausage and then make a roux from the pan drippings and then gravy to pour over freshly made biscuits on Christmas morning--of course, after all the presents were opened.
Smart move. Lettuce prices are ridiculous. I grow my own mixed leaves lettuce. They taste FAR better than that bought in a store!

but that's the hard way and ends up with less taste
crumble the sausage and fry (iron skillet). sprinkle flour directly over sausage crumbles and stir till flour is absorbed and has the color you want ~ 2 minutes or so. now i use milk but you might be going with water? anyhow, this infuses more flavor in the roux
