Good morning lovely and handsome Snails
Wow did I ever sleep late!
40 here.
...
phone service is not a "right"...it's a service and not guaranteed to to be there ...

... He should have some form of cell backup ...

... Or take him somewhere if you need to ...

Not acceptable in my book. But maybe it IS a reality due to this nasty storm.
Electric service is also not a right. Ponder if you were told your power
would be out for 14 days.
Offering to pay for it?
You wanna teach an 87 year-old how to use one?
What an EASY solution!!! I'll jump right on that!
...
But I see no comment about the 14-day time frame for repair. That MUST be
completely acceptable, since no mention of it was made.
Forgot to follow-up here...
The responding officer called (via his cell) to say Dad is OK and watching
TV and not knowing his phone is out of service. No dial tone, dead line.
He checked the connections on Dad's 2 phones.
I call the telephone company to report it. It will be repaired BY MARCH 28.
I emphasized my Dad is 87 and relies on his phone in case of emergency.
All I got was an apology due to last week's wind storm and this past snow
storm.
It never dawned on me: he also has a pacemaker monitor that requires
landine service.
I'm calling back at 8. Any "apology" will result in a request to speak with
somebody higher up the food chain. I may have to threaten lawsuit if
anything drastic happens.
Bear my husbands life depends on the oxygen concentrator and during an outage we have no "special treatment" for getting the power back on quicker then anyone else either. There is no Priorities List for that any longer here. I was told to get a generator for outages.

Yup,it was told to me they used to give medical priority but they don't do that anymore.
So I had to buy a generator cuz with hurricanes and bad storms here I have in previous years been with no power for 2 weeks at a timeBear my husbands life depends on the oxygen concentrator and during an outage we have no "special treatment" for getting the power back on quicker then anyone else either. well when you think about it, it would be kinda unrealistic to expect the "priority people" treatment. My power company is excellent, (a Co-Op, and also cheapest on around the state) they cover a vast amount of area. So just consider when people who are medically needing of power compared to those who aren't. These people are scattered all over the place. They aren't all together on one road or supply line. So if you think about how the power company would have to travel to each individual section to start the power back on they'd be zig zagging all over the country for one or two homes emergencies. It doesn't make sense really to do that. Instead they use the zones with the most population hooked up to them and turn them back on and move to the next area. It's much more efficient to restore power the way they do it now.I'm sorry. That's just WRONG!!! They should supply a small generator to you! And anyone else who has a medical dependency on such things!![]()

I suppose if you can afford it then it's best to be independent.Yup,it was told to me they used to give medical priority but they don't do that anymore. So I had to buy a generator cuz with hurricanes and bad storms here I have in previous years been with no power for 2 weeks at a time
Not easy if one lives in an apartment. How does one go about it?I was told to get a generator for outages.
