with 143 million accounts involved chances were mighty good! :p so good that equifax is offering the free one-year protection plan to one and all if i read the announcement right! ;)
I am already enrolled in a monitoring thing due to a health insurer
breach in 2014. It was supposed to be for only 1 year, but I
continue to get monthly :thumb: or :nah: notices. It did pick up
on a new credit card in my name (for which I DID apply) a
couple months ago.

(By the way, getting a brand new account LOWERS your FICO
because "average credit age" gets whammied.) (IF that is
important to you.)

So, do I need TWO monitors?...

The sad thing? That monitoring is an add-on thing. I mean, they're supposed to keep that info secure anyway, so basically since no system is 100% hack-proof, monitoring should really be SOP and part of the collective cost of doing business for these CC companies. Maybe we need a national ID monitoring bureau, "just because". Heck, they mandate that we have ID's, but they don't mandate that they monitor fraud.

Good morning snails.

I check my CC activity weekly, anyway. It's a Saturday Morning tradition while
the PC is being backed-up. And Chase has been EXCELLENT in finding stuff
before I do... those small red-flag fraudulent charges are nabbed post-haste.
Witness the 3 or 4 re-issued cards over the last few years. A pain in the bass,
but shows they are on the ball in that regard.

So... I don't know.

G'mornin, snails...

None of my data on the old phone was recoverable; unresponsive due to liquid damage. So, I bought a new iPhone 7 Plus (PRODUCT)^red; figured I'd contribute to something that sounds worthwhile. It's a good thing (I guess) that I don't remember any of the passwords to my email addresses and will have to reset them.

Assume you're compromised and take appropriate steps.

Things will get better for all of us snails. It has to, cuz it seems like the balance has been tilted to the negative long enough that a swing to the positive should be here soon.

"Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and Sea World said Thursday morning
they are monitoring the movement of Irma, but at this point have made
    >>> no plans <<<
to shut down their parks or alter the normal hours of operations."

Well GOOD FOR THEM!!! Don't stand near Cinderella's Castle during the
high winds... remember that one scene in "The Omen"??? Cool.

    And also this:
"Users are given a date when they will be enrolled in free identity theft protection and
    credit file monitoring services."

Bzzzt! Wrong!!! "Users" must return via their own possibly failing memory to enroll.
They will not be "will be enrolled" (horrible English, but...). Makes it sound automatic.

Somebody remind me on the 13th.

    Thank you.
They are advising to do a credit freeze with all 3 credit bureaus.
The monitoring service they offer doesn't prevent identity fraud. It only alerts you to it.

    Good morning all.

Watching the forecast tracks and thinking about Gracie and Classy and Pepper. A friend evac'd two days ago and was providing facebook reports on traffic and gas availability. She made it out of Florida in *only* double the usual time

Hope your respective DH's are doing ok Tibs and Fran.

drywall is up (not mudded yet) and deck is up (no rails yet)....feels like progress. I'll post pictures once i figure out a way to link them- i don't like to store pictures here unless i have to.

    Hope all y'all are well
