My Dad... independent living on his own... is aiming me toward
meltdown/breakdown/madness. Sigh. Take this past weekend...
I'm assuming that living with you and "hus" is out of the question........?????????????
:D

So it's independent or an assisted living community.

Totally out of the question. Previously-mentioned. Because "if Dad",
then "mother-in-law". Nope. Scratch that. AIN'T happening.

If on Medicaid, it's independent OR nursing home. They do not
cover assisted.

ETA: In NY.

both, medicare and medicaid, offer very little in this respect. sometimes i wonder where those people in charge of benefits left their brain :?:

It's not their brains that are faulty, Tibs. It's the money. Don't forget the our SS and Medicare programs were based on the premise that we would retire at 65 and then politely expire a few years later. ;) They were never meant to take care of people in very expensive nursing homes for 20 or 30 years. Every politician knows that SS and entitlement programs need to be reformed, but nobody wants to touch the subject. And those who do lose elections.

Had therapy session today. Went well. It's always nice when a psychologist "gets" you. She is very easy to talk to and a very intelligent woman. She talks to me like Tibs (lol) only without the frying pan. Said to expect to be anxious before this scan, it's normal and it's ok.

Good evening and goodnight Snails. Sleep well, pleasant dreams and a better tomorrow for all :)

exactly! and what medicare is paying to nursing homes is unreal! i was in shock when i realized the nursing home was more expensive than the private assisted living facility and the difference is like night and day!

What about visiting nurses or elder care?
He has refused 2 or 3x per week co-pay for PT. Kind of doubt he'd shell out
for 7x per week (4 hours per day) for "visiting nurses". And the word
    "nurse" is used VERY lightly.

He does not NEED that yet, anyway.

My original lament was his effect on MY sanity. (And I am a "caregiver" in the
    LIGHTEST sense of the word.)

Take this past weekend, as an example...
