Levels of certain harmful chemicals were between 55 and 99 percent lower in the vapor produced by iqos than in cigarette smoke. But animal and laboratory studies submitted by the company also suggested the chemicals could still be toxic and contribute to precancerous growths. A company study in mice could help clarify the cancer risk, but the FDA said the results would not be available until later this year.
I don't know...this excerpt gives me pause from a harm reduction perspective. Earlier in the text, it also mentions that the vapor is closer to cigarettes. For me, I'm glad that vapor doesn't taste anything like cigarettes so that made me think this would be a "No" for me.

And of course, there has been no mention of costs. For the last 2 years, I have only purchased nic and flavoring. That changed in December and this month, but I don't plan on any more major purchases for awhile so my vaping costs are negligible....

Good morning Gracie :)

@Katmar I now remember hearing that BT had been researching some smoking alternatives. I honestly thought they would try to develop a "better" (read proprietary) vape, but didn't imagine they would try to develop a different tobacco delivery system. I suppose it makes a certain amount of sense...try to develop a device that doesn't require as much modification to the tobacco plant in order to deliver nicotine.

Totally agree. BT just wants to stay in the game, no matter what. And what a kick in the teeth if the FDA approves this device!

It's my guess that BT can get anything approved that they want approved ;) If I were BT, I would try anything to keep profits up and they've certainly taken a hit in the last 20 or so years. Unfortunately, so have we consumers with all of the restrictions and taxes imposed...
