Snails - Response on Threads Part 8

G'mornin, snails...

Mowed the lawn last night for the first time this year. I think I'm finally going to do something about the path the mailpersons trample through every day of the week except for holidays. Would a flourescent tape fence marking the trench to avoid be too much? I've honestly thought about putting in a paving stone path or something because water just pools in that section and can't be good for my built in 1928 foundation.

Paving stones won't usually do much to stop water around foundations...unless it's sealed between cracks with mortar and such...then it becomes PAVED and could let water run away/off to some other location. But a gravel path or pavers will just let it seep mostly back down. The solution is to change the elevation and FILL it with dirt.

Yeah, I know. But there's the whole house at the bottom of a neighborhood "valley" thing. I mainly want the mailpersons to stop wearing the same path into my lawn.

Oh, well then pavers or gravel (with border to keep it contained). Pavers are less messy, gravel will get into the grass and you'll have to mow over it and toss it around. Same with chips. Pavers do need a gravel or sand base though...but it gets burried. If you get ice much, you need gravel under them so they heave less. But in MO, IDK.

If it's just a "thin trench" then you might end up building it up anyway. Just make sure it all ends up sloping AWAY from the house.

Well, at least I got to enjoy some sun today. Was too chilly to sit out, though. But I walked around the house (outside) a few times, just to get some bright light and fresh air.
