@AttyPops, my spaces aren't real. They're periods and I made them white. ;)

When I first read your post, I really didn't understand the point you were trying to make. I use the dark forum mode, and the periods were perfectly visible. But, I have used that trick in other circumstances.
Anyway, it would be a tad tedious to use that trick to make a paragraph look better.

When I went into edit mode to add an afterthought, I saw the double spacing is intact, in edit mode. Very interesting. They're not removed at all, just suppressed in display mode. Throws the old, "to save storage space", out the window.

Since it remains intact, agreed.

However, it still doesn't throw the other points out (bandwidth, parser's formatting speed/ease).
Maybe they should start removing unnecessary commas, which I'm frequently guilty of using. And, while we're at it, double and triple exclamation points and question marks. Smileys/emoticons...on the chopping block, superfluous.
Heck, let's get rid of silent consonants while we're at it, LOL.
Seriously though, I've read probably all the pro arguments. It's primarily a matter of changing style and the fact that proportional spacing makes (in many peoples' minds) the double space as unnecessary. I disagree. That doesn't mean I take myself overly seriously. But, I'll always use them anyway. I still wear a wristwatch, and I take still photos with a bridge camera, videos with a good (4K) camcorder. Yup, I'm old fashioned in some ways, set in my ways, and somewhat cantankerous at times.

Well, I did find, an article, that, gives scientific-support to, the double-spaced aesthetic aspects, anyway. But, only just,,,barely.
:D

In the end, though, with forums and such I think there's a FUNCTIONAL reason to do it, which was my point. They're less concerned about aesthetics as compared to publishers of the magazine or magazine-format variety, and more concerned with functionality.
