This doesn't make any sense. My phone is showing 4 or 5 bars of 5g reception. However, using it as a mobile hotspot doesn't relate to a high-speed or faster than i'm getting connection to the internet? I checked with speedtest.net and i'm getting a connection speed of about .50 mbps download speed. The phone is rather quick, but that doesn't relate to a quick speed for the computer. Am I doing something wrong or is there something i can do to speed it up?
it's been this way since the beginning. also, i have an unlimited data plan with 50gb of high speed data monthly before they considered throttling me down. it;s t-mobile.
How do you connect the phone to the computer? IOW, check the connection between your phone and your computer first.
I assume you're using it via WiFi
Also, run the speed test on the phone to some city near you. What speed is the phone getting?
I guess i'm connecting thru wifi. idk i look for it in the list on my computer and connect to it. I did a speedtest and I am getting 24.5 download and 6.05 upload on the phone.
I also checked my computer speed and i'm getting .35 mbps download and .60 upload. funny u normally don't get a high upload than download, hmmm.

apparently, 2.4 ghz wifi connection is the default on most phones. switching that to 5 ghz should help

Which tells you that it's the computer-to-phone point that is the problem, not the phone-to-world point.
So I'd start with following what Tibs said, as much as that will pain you.
might also be a t-mobile problem. plenty of complaints out there over the years that hot spot speeds on their phones are dismal.
