I'd get an allen wrench and adjust it.

It bothers me slightly that there's a 16 M ohm measurement. But meh.

I'm guessing that the battery is shorter than the distance between the bottom button and the screw and pushing the bottom button activates it. But ....you said something about the switch being in the cap. So....

Anyway...I know you've had enough for now. I have to hit the hay. I wish I had one to envision what's going on. It can't be that much...but it's hard remotely. To me, the cap is where the drip tip goes so I got confused for a bit.

Good luck CES!

thank Atty. I'll probably take it to work tomorrow and try using an allen wrench. That's the only thing left for me to test. I think the battery makes contact with the screw head (and i've tried adjusting screw that sets the distance of the the switch on the bottom cap to correct for that possibility) , but i don't think the other end of the screw is making contact with the center post of the carto

sorry to have confused you- i don't know the names of all the bits and pieces and i can't find pictures of them or a diagram. sigh.

Thanks again- i really appreciate all the time you've taken this evening. Sleep well!

CES. Before I go... I'd like you to re-quote one of my 1st posts. I changed the "0" references to "Open" due to different meters. I don't want people to mess up the short vs open thing. Meters can be confusing that way.

Also on your meter, you said "0.L" ohms. when you test ohms by putting the two leads together, what do you get?

My meter reads 0.00 ohms when you touch the leads together, and 0.L mega Ohms when the leads are not touching... zero to infinite is how i interpret it. :)

so i understood what you meant in the earlier post

ETA- fixed the quote.

Thank you CES for fixing that. :)
That reading gets confusing. That's what I assumed the 0.L was too. But it could confuse a newbie. I don't want them to think that a short is an open. That could be bad. They have to know how their meter works.

Goodnight and good luck!

and just one more note and i'm really gone....the base of the tank is now metering as open, it must still have been damp before (since i tried it first with a nice full tank that got kind of messy to empty to start testing stuff). Also, i metered across the tank base with the body and the tank base does make contact with the battery when the switch is depressed.
