hiya, ces! another easy day today or are you back to your regular pace?

It's not too bad. I do actually have to go to work today, and teach, and stuff...but i decided to take Friday off too. Saturday will be a bit longer than usual, but at least I'll get 2 full days this weekend :)

(and i have no fence painting on my agenda ;) )

I might have to send in a picture of 'my' black and yellow orb weaver. I found her egg sac the other day. Freaked me out at first, because it was far enough from her web (3-4 feet) that i thought it was for a different, scary type of spider, like a black widow (cause i've seen at least one in my shed) or something. Google to the rescue. Turns out they put their eggs kinda high, in leaves, and a little distant from the web. So, I won't cut back the plants where the baby orb weavers will come out next spring.

Sprayers are great if:

You have a lot of area to cover and
You don't mind the setup (masking stuff off). Fences are often ideal. Particularly the 6' high kind that run for 100's of feet. You'd need either extension cords, and/or compressors to travel with you though. Or rollers.

On 2nd thought...nm....or it wouldn't have been two years. Probably not the right situation for it.

Here
I'm not sure this peppermint oil thing is working on the mice here... And I specifically bought the expensive essential oil (to me anyway) and made sure it was Mentha Peperita... Been wasting cotton balls galore, and saturating them with about 10ml of the stuff straight, and putting them along the walls and such where I know they're traveling. First was just doing cotton swabs dipped in the oil and placing those about, trying to be frugal, but since I saw the buddies even run across those I thought perhaps those weren't potent enough. I bought a 16oz jug and it's nearly half gone by now, with me only partially treating our garage and shed...wish this stuff would discourage the squirrels and chipmunks, too. And the stupid critters already chewed my newly reinstalled garage weatherstripping. Poopy. But, perhaps they did that to escape from the peppermint smell? Though I know there's some still in there.

I suppose I should be thankful they're not in the house. Yet. Dealt with them in the past in the attic (above the garage; we have an attached garage). Maybe I need to make one of those bucket traps now, since most of my mousetraps are pretty gross and crapping out. Probably doesn't help that to disengage the ones the mice have successfully taken the bait I just toss on the ground to snap. Those expensive clip kind were great, but I only have 4 since they're pricey and I've lost/misplaced one or two of them. Then another one is pretty gross since it was left for a long time with a mouse in it...

Oh wanna know a gross story? Ehhh...maybe I shouldn't. It's pretty gross. I filmed it too. Oh gosh, so gross.
Just know it has to do with a garage find.

And in that note, I should stop being a .... and go do stuff. Oh so much stuff to do.

The GF uses dryer sheets (like Bounce) to repel mice from trailer and stuff. Supposedly works. They hate the smell. Drives em out.

Then again:
Dryer Sheets Don't Deter Mice | Cleaning | Upkeep | This Old House

lol. Supposedly another myth per ^^^. I'll have to tell the GF....
Of course, if mice do get in, I'd get blamed for it if she quits using dryer sheets. So maybe I just don't say anything.....

Anyway CES. This is an interesting read that's not full of feel-good myths:
Winning the squirrel wars - MSN Real Estate
However it doesn't have many good solutions either. Maybe get a cat to live under there........ ;)
