I roast coffee at home. But not long ago a couple coffee roasters got this 'popcorn lung' from being exposed during the roasting process. Between smoking for years, vaping for a few more, and roasting my coffee and eating some popcorn........I SHOULD BE DEAD! What happened?
A few years back a 'study' came out revealing that burnt toast caused cancer, later repealed. I remember making mental note to take ALL these types of health warnings with a couple of hand fulls of salt.
The Diacetyl scare and disproportionate cover of battery accidents were in my opinion part of a successful media pre-emptive strike against vaping. Followed by draconian legislation designed to remove peoples access to a life saving technology.
The problem is that thrown feces stick, and people are going to believe what they see in the news 100x more than what a vaper tells them.

The diacetyl issue was WAY overblown.
Is it a risk? Possibly, but nowhere near the level of hype it got in the media. It's an avoidable risk, and in a shining example of "free markets" working the way they should, when it started becoming an issue, many manufacturers stopped using it.

I've been getting that "Pop Corn Warning" from some I know. I just send them the Snopes link. One of them cam back with, "Well you are aware that Snopes is run by a bunch of left wing nuts don't you". I just smile and then yell, "GET OFF MY ******* LAWN!!"
Facts and Science are left wing.
The scares don't resonate for two reasons. Everybody acceps ecigs are lower risk. The anti crowd is trying to find an excuse to ban them anyway. And, where are the reports of doctors treating illnesses caused by using ecigs? Apparently there are 40 million vapers world wide.
May be vapers will start to shake the ground when it's harder to buy vape stuff. So far virually nothing has happened but big government beating their chest and a few state governments trying to crush their vape shops.
