Frankie, good read. You're getting it. If you try snus, you'll likely find you keep a portion in your mouth for a period from a half-hour to two hours. The stronger the snus, the longer you'll keep it in place. If you use CatchDry or even Camel, like Biscuitslayer, you'll most likely change portions at least once an hour. Why? That way you'll To keep your blood nicotine level at a level high enough to prevent most cravings.

Biscuitslayer: Camel hits our shops in a week. Thanks for the offer, though. I'll be buying some to join the many tins that just arrived from my Northerner order.

P.S. Yes, I like Offroad Coffee/Vanilla. Have not tried apple. Generally, Offroad is ... weird tasting. Not too yummy. Especially compared to Camel or CatchDry.

Thanks TB. I am looking for the more tasty snus, so if you have any good suggestions for me, I would appreciate it. I might start buying in bulk from one of the sites mentioned earlier in the thread. The snus is working so well for me. Using my e-cig is becoming a thing of the past, and a poutch or two of snus per day is enough to keep me satisfied and happy. I am really glad that I stumbled apon this thread.

Last night, I had several beers which is my weak spot when it comes to smoking analogs. I haven't had a real cigarette for 20 days and I didn't have any at my house when I was drinking.

To make a long story short, I drank several beers (5 I think) and then I had that old feeling of wanting a real one. I picked up my e-cig and started puffing away but it just wasn't cutting it for me. Then I popped in a pouch of the mellow snus and whamo! I had no more desire for a real cig or the e-cig for that matter. It absolutely killed the craving for me.

TB, your suggestion for using snus during certain times of the day (when your cravings are the worst) is spot on. I try to limit myself to two pouches per day, and it seems to be working great for me.

All I need now is a list of the tasty snus that you guys use and I will be in business. I figure if I buy a couple of rolls of the stuff, I should be good to go for several months. Worse case scenario is I buy the individual cans at my local gas station. The Camel snus tastes great IMO. :)

Jarvis, I'm working on the CatchDry Vanilla/Mint right now. It's good, but I like the CatchDry Peppermint better.

I, too, have trouble finding Swedish snus that are sweet enough for my American tastes. Most taste nasty to me.

I'm eagerly awaiting Camel sales in my area, starting Feb. 23. I've liked all three Camel flavors. Note that SkoalDry has a cinnamon flavor snus that I enjoyed when it was test marketed. It's a pouch product, but not yet sold in my area.

I rely on snus more for nicotine than I do the e-cigs. The e-cigs are fantastic for the habit part of smoking; they don't cut it for me from a nicotine addiction standpoint.

Congrats to both of you for finding a much less harmful way of remaining smoke free.

It might be 3 soon ;) Or maybe I should do this :( , who knows. Fact is that e-cigs cause certain general discomfort for me and snuss seems not to. I will wait a few weeks before selling my e-cig stuff, though.

THANK YOU TROPICAL BOB. It was you I learned about this from. My friend the doctor recommended trying e-cigs which lead to 3 months off smoking, but your recommendations seem to be much better for longer term use, at least for me. I will yet have to learn to like snuff (the effects are fine, just the route of administration feels a bit weird to me), but I fell in love with snus instantly.

Have you tried the energy option, anybody? I found this one to be perfect for work:

Actually better than coffee or redbull itself, because it gets into the system much slower so it less of shock initially and keeps me going for longer time.

The energy snus is quite popular. I tried it when it first came out and didn't take to it immediately. As I kept using it, it became more acceptable to me. While I had the tin, I popped an energy snus in my mouth as soon as I woke up! Energy Snus has some real fans among snusers.

I also like the part about "teeth whitening". There is no reason in the world that a snus cannot be tasty yet help clean teeth. By moving the pouch around, a user actually scrapes off a light layer of tartar. Add the whitener and you've got a great product.

This one is also plenty powerful from a nicotine standpoint.

I just found the taste ... lacking. In my own review, I compared the honey flavor to the old Bit-O-Honey chewy candies, calling this one Bit-O-Nasty. But I might give it another chance.

It should be powerful from the other ingredients rather than nicotine I believe. It has 6 mg nicotine per pouch. The weakest I have is 3 mg - advertised for ladies, unfortunately I like it  - and the mini pouches are 4 mg and normal portion is 8 mg, so this one is just somewehere in the middle. I thought you used something like the extra strong 16 mg...

The taste reminds me of medicinal chewing gum I was given from time to time as a kid. I don´t remember what it was supposed to be good for, but tasted similarly.

Frankie, 6mg is high to me. And there is something about the way Wise (company just changed its name to Ommmph or something like that) absorbs that is faster and heavier than others. I've been sick twice from overdosing -- both times with Wise 6mg Wine and Chef snus. Powerful stuff. I've tried much stronger, but it tastes awful, so I don't keep it up.

Energy Snus does taste like medicine. I agree.

P.S. I like all those "ladies' snus, too. Bahama Velvet, Romeo y Julieta Senorita, etc.

Well, I was badly wrong then. I will have to be very careful when trying the "normal size" 8 mg pouches later on. It also explains why I am completely happy with my wimpy 3 mg mini pouches, because those are Wise/Ooomph, too. The Vikings must have somehow different metabolism or what.

It also has some implications for e-cig use. I seem to have both heart palpitations and digestive problems with 8 mg e-liquid (1ml per day) even after 3 months of daily use when I should be well acclimated, and the 6mg energy snus (several a day) just leaves me feeling great, in spite of including three other stimulants, albeit in small doses. Maybe the cig provides too much too fast. Maybe it is just too tasty for me to put it down soon enough.

I know this is going to sound weird, but a while back I remember reading in the "Common Symtoms with E Smoking" that people complained about urine smell. That never happened with me with e-smoking, but it has happened with Snus usage. Has anyone else experienced this?

On another note, I am consistantly using two pouches per day of Camel Frost or Mellow. I was able to take advantage of some good deals because of my wife's ability to coupon shop as well as get stuff for free. I also found a deal on Ebay for 7 tins of Camel snus for $15 shipped (with 8 freebies, whatever that means). I should be good to go for about 2 or 3 months now. :)

The other cool thing is that I have cut back DRASTICALLY with my e-smoking as well. I have been using it occasionally thoughout the day, but I haven't felt the need to vape my brains out. Today I got a wicked sore throat which is making e-smoking impossible, so the Snus is filling in nicely. I didn't even have to step down in nic strength. All I ever used was 36 and 24 mg.

I think within a month or two, I could probably kick just about all forms of nicotine. :)

Two pouches of extremely low nic... I envy you ;) . There are also no-nic snuses if you want to kick nicotine.

To the question: I had bad problems with e-smoking, also concerning my digestion, and they stopped at the same time I stopped vaping. I believe snus might actually be good for digestion. Allegedly it helps against heartburn.

Man, One per hour? I didn't want to pick tobacco back up full force. I figured if I limit myself to when I really want a hit then I should be good to go and just compensate with the e-cig. I enjoy the snus and the hit way more though.

As far as the Camel snus being low nic, you are probably very accurate with this. I feel like I am getting way more nicotine from those two pouches than I was with puffing on the e-cig all day. I probably keep each pouch in between 1 1/2 to 2 hours on average. I probably get most of the nicotine from swallowing the juice. The initial burn is what provides the instant satisfaction for me though.

I am so glad I found this thread. Snus is great stuff!

Initial burn... Interesting idea, because I wanted to ask something similar myself. Not about the burn, I only feel the perfect rush some 20 minutes after taking a portion, but:

I have both the nice tasting nice smelling citrus, eucalyptus etc. dry portions and awfully smelling (and probably tasting) General and Ettan. And yet, when cravings start, I crave (actually I can almost feel it in my mouth when I really need one) the rough, salty, bittersweet flavour of the traditional brands. I have no part in their tradition, never tried it before, never even heard about it, so no prejudice there. They also are not (at least should not be officially) any stronger than those nice tasting ones. Have you experienced something like this or is it just some beginner´s quirk? I am not even trying to ask in special snus forum; those people probably grew up with the taste of traditional unflavoured lös, and they also seem to be way over my league in the strenght department ;)

As to the nicotine: This is just my feeling, but if I keep portion really long, I feel something like a second rush or at least a wave of satisfaction towards the very end of usability of the portion. Maybe because I suck on it towards the end, but theoretically what gets into the stomach should not count, only mouth should absorb snus nic.

Correct on mouth absorption. Your stomach just passes it on and the lower intestine absorbs some nic, but not much.

Here's one way to figure it: A 6mg snus will provide about 2mg of absorbed nicotine. A normal cigarette will provide about 1mg of absorbed nicotine. A smoker gets a craving every half hour. That's 2mg per hour for a satisfied smoker. If a snus is left in place an hour, it's nicotine is thoroughly absorbed -- 2mg.

You have thus reached the same nicotine blood level as a smoker, only without the high spikes and falls of inhaling smoke.

My friend and I drove around to all of the convenience stores within a decent distance of our university because we caught rumor that there was somewhere nearby that would be debuting the new Camel Snus. Finally, after about an hour of hunting, we found the place.

They were running a deal: if you bought a can of Camel Snus and a box of Camel analogs, you would get a can of snus for free. I flipped the analogs for a slight profit to my jonesing roommate when I got back to the dorm for a slight profit. Essentially, I ended up with two cans of Camel Snus for $3.46, plus a dollar profit on the cigarettes meant I really only payed $2.46.

It might not seem like a big deal, but I'm a college kid for crying out loud :D

Anyway, my friend and I put a pouch in during the car ride home. I have to say I am an immediate fan - the syrupy flavor of the "Mellow Snus" both satisfied my nicotine craving and sweet tooth.

I am usually grossed out and largely opposed to smoke-free tobacco (my brother dips on occasion, and he always momentarily loses classy points in my head every time he spits), but Snus is much different.

The same friend and I have a 3 hour nightclass, and I usually discretely use my e-cig during class. However, I popped in a Snus and left it in for the first half of the class, and it seemed like class just flew by.

In all, I am way excited at this new form of tobbacco.

Tropical Bob, if it's not too personal of a question, how many analogs did you smoke on a daily basis before quitting? I'm asking because today two pouches and periodic vaping kept my analog consumption to one cigarette (I still enjoy an analog and a cup of coffee with the sunrise too much to let it go), but I was just curious what level of analog consumption warrants a pouch an hour. (I hope that came off alright, I'm purely just curious)

Oh sure, it's okay to ask. I smoked about 30 cigs a day. Very steady consumption that didn't vary much from crisis to calm. Long ago, I began with Kent, switched to True (low tar but treated with ammonia that thoroughly addicted me!), then to USA Gold because of price increases and finally to Dean's Lil Cigars (smoked 30 a day, but they cost a third what cigarettes cost).

I keep a snus in most of the time, certainly while e-smoking. I use Stonewall dissolvable tablets after meals and first thing in the morning. I love those and use about six a day (4mg each). I also smoke about 4 pipes a day, but do not inhale the smoke.

Congrats on the snus. They're great and their biggest problem is confusion with "dip" or "chew" or "spitting tobacco." Those are disgusting and have major mouth hazards with their use. Snus is safe as verified by century-long use and testing in Sweden.

I just got my first ecig, its an evo and I do rather enjoy it and will probably use it as an auxillary nicotine delivery system. but it is no snus and will never replace it for me. Smoking was my first love so sometimes in social settings I still miss a good throat hit, but I find more and more the smell of analogs kill me, and not the tobacco itslef but the chemicals.I was originaly a smoker then moved to american snuff(nasty crap) when my job went all anti-amoke. I was getting terrible headaches and I went online to find what the hell was in it. Problem is they don't have to tell you what they put in american tobacco products. In Sweden they must declare the ingredients as they would a food product. I have no desire to ever try american snus either, and for the same reason I will never smoke another analog or use american snuff. Phillip Morris knows how to make good snus (they make 1812 in sweden), but they market a completely different product that is overpriced and sweetened to american consumers. An average swedish snus is 8mg and 24 pouches to a can, camel snus is 3mg and 15 pouches and for a ridiculous price. Analogs also contain sugar which is another addictive substance that raises your blood sugar, which is why quitters gain weight, they're tring to get there blood sugar to the level they were accustomed to while smoking. So Phillip Morris and RJ Reynolds are up to they're old tricks again. Go to Buysnus.com, or northener.com and get the real stuff.
