I'm not a menthol person either, Figurehead, but I like the taste of Camel Frost. It's quite sweet, with moderate nicotine. It most defininitely is NOT chew -- or a stinky wet pouch. Camel snus is dry, sweetened and contained in an elongated pouch so it is easily concealed in use. Perfect for use in places like movie theaters, stadiums, etc.

Anyone who breathes fire should try it.

I want to try the camel snus but the closest retailer is 45 minutes away from me  .... I'm not going to drive that far just to find out that I like it and will have to drive 45 minutes every time I want some.... does anyone know when camel will be expanding beyond the test market areas and promote more widespread sales of snus??

Ok I bit the bullet and got me some snus today. They only had General so I got the mini mint and a can of White Portion. Couple of questions for you experts out there.
1. Where do you guys keep it in your mouth at? I put it in the front between my lower lip and gums. Is this correct or doesn't it matter?

2. How do I know what strength this is or is all the General the same strength? Couldn't find any mg reading on the can. All I see that may be it says 6g on the mint and 24g on the other. Is that the strength? If so I'm in for quite a ride if the other is 24 mg.8-o Better start growing hairy shoulders.:D

I tried the mint one after lunch today and really enjoyed it. Definitely going to keep this on hand everyday. Little weary on trying the other until I find out if that is really the nic amount or not. Thanks for any help you can give the noobie.:)

1, Traditionally it is kept under UPPER lip just a bit off the center. This is because it does not run that much from under the upper lip as from the lower. You get almost no nicotine from the juice you swallow. It is absorbed by the contact, so the juice is just for taste really. After some time, an hour or so, i sometimes suck on them or place them under the lower lip to get more taste when the nicotine has been used already.

2, You can check in an online shop like Northerner.com, buy Snus online, order shipped within 24 hours express worldwide . Find your type (e.g. Mini or White) and your brand General. They state nicotine content per portion or per gram (in case of loose snus) for every item they sell. I never saw General Mini Mint, though.
Usually the Mini portions have 4 mg of nicotine and Regular 8 mg. Of that, 10-30 % is absorbed during the first 30 minutes. meaning a Mini is like a light cigarette, Regular would be like a strong full flavour one. Purified portions (Wise/Oomph) are 3 and 6 mg respectively, but are said to have much stronger absorbtion rate.

I use nicotine in very small doses and I tried both Regular portion and Purified 6mg without any ill effects apart from being sort of jittery like after too much coffee. I believe you can safely try the other one you bought - but not too soon after the previous one (it is almost as strong after 60 minutes as after 35*), give it lets say two hours, and DO NOT mix it with other nicotine sources.

6 and 24 g probably means tobacco content, not strenght. The strongest snus so far is 17mg and it is clearly labeled as "extra strong" (extra sterk or stark or something like that).

The traditional upper lip location comes from loose snus use, before pouchs took over the market. Diehards still swear by loose, but I wouldn't touch the messy stuff. I move my portion around some, but most often it's in the lower cheek/gum area, just to the side of my front teeth. I can smile -- and no one can see I'm an addict on snus!

Camel should be available everywhere now. Check a convenience store. My problem with Camel is that a tin has 15 portions, while Swedish snus pack 20 to a tin. And the Camel costs me $4.17 after tax. The Swedish snus is delivered to my door for the same price. I like the Camel, but they're shorting me 5 snus per tin.

Tropical Bob ... I'm overseas right now but before I left I was really enjoying Camel Snus as an alternative to smoking, problem is it's not sold through the military here nor can you order it online. When originally searching for snus online I ran across your posts and this site and ordered six tins through northerner.com. I ordered two tins of 1847 (white and dark), Gustavus, two tins of General Onyx and one of Nick (&J) East, from searching through the site I figured this would give me a pretty good spectrum to what's out there for real Swedish snus.

Now finally to my question ... is there anything sold through northerner that is more like the Camel snus we get stateside? Maybe I haven't given what I order a full try yet but all I can taste no matter what the brand or blend is salt! I'm going to follow your advice and give it few days in the fridge to "mello" but the strength isn't what's making me want to toss the package that I was looking forward to getting.

Thanks,

Denny

Thanks for the advice guys. Moved it up to the upper lip today after doing some research last night. Just to much info to go through on here sometimes to find what you're looking for.:D

Tried the General White portion today. That one packed a little more wallop and I'm not sure I'm liking the taste of that one yet. Guy said it tastes like Copenhaven which I never tried. Definitely something I'll give another try but I don't know if it's something that will grow on me. 8-o

Denny: Try any of the CatchDry products. Here in the States, we have CatchDry Peppermint, which is nice and somewhat similar to the Camel Frost. Skoal just came out with a snus and the cinnamon is very good, if it's sold where you shop. I'd also try the Ooomph Citrus/Menthol (I still think of it as the Wise brand). All of these are mild in a U.S. way. Many, many users taste massive salt in the Swedish pure tobacco products. That comes with the special processing and before long you really don't taste it.

Smokingclam: General takes some getting used to. I now like the General Mint and Wintergreen, but no other product of theirs.

Bought three tins to try out from Northerner.com thanks to this thread: White portion: Mocca Anis, Mocca Pomegranate, and Oomph purified.

I'm a little scared that customs is going to charge me though in Canada, was thinking i should have went with Buysnus.com instead because I hear they label the package 'swedish snus as' opposed to 'chewing tobacco' that northerner.com labels it. less customs workers would know that snus was tobacco I would imagine.

I found some Camel snus here in Houston at a convenience store, so here's my review of it. First off, there was a buy 2 get one free promotion going on, so I got one a mellow, and a frost flavor for around 9 dollars and one frost on the house.
It tastes about as much like snus as the e-cig tastes like a cigarette. These things are tobacco candy, no kidding, very sweet, and no saltiness whatsoever. They do pack a decent nicotine kick, which was surprising. The mellow has a very sweet almost caramel tobacco flavor. The frost is like a piece of wintergreen gum, very sweet and minty.
I like the elongated bags, which are slightly bigger than mini portions, but not noticeable in your lip like the bulkier regular portion can sometimes be. So I would recommend trying them out, but they will not completely replace the imported stuff for me. I've become too fond of the strong tobacco flavors and saltiness to stop ordering online.

I have to agree with you on the Camel snus. Little to sweet for my taste and I didn't feel the nic hit like I would have liked. I retried the General White Portion today and I'm liking it alot more the 2nd time around. Last time I tried it was after eating buffalo wings for lunch and I think it influenced my taste to it.:D

Since regular portions are already soaked in tobacco juice I suspect you get your nicotine quicker from them than from white portions.

I figure that strong (stark) loose (los) snus gives me an even sharper, quicker spike of nicotine. I use Skruf Stark Los, packed with an icetool. First thing in the morning I even pack both sides of my upper lip with it. But unlike most users, I don't usually leave it in. I take it out once my nicotine levels are high enough. Not only is this closer to the cigarette experience, it prevents mud mouth. If you pick a loose snus that packs well, use an icetool or a prismaster to pack it, and take it out fairly quickly it stays together in a neat little roll. You really don't need the little teabags.

For the times when it's more about an oral reward or to change the taste in my mouth than about the nicotine, I use Catch Dry Peppermint aka General Mini-Mint. It's a white mini portion that tastes like an Altoid or a Lifesaver Peppermint. Those I leave in.

Dorje Chenpo: Can you tell me the diameter of the Prismaster or Icetool, please?
Not knowing whether I really like loose snus, I did not buy the tools, just a few discount cans of Odens Regular. Instead of pro tools I just used a sawed-off thingy for kids medication which is like a syringe 1 centimeter in diameter, because we have plenty of them lying around. I found I loved the stuff and the ugly DIY works well for small portions (about 7mm long, 10 mm wide circular tablet; should be equal to mini portion in pouch) and I would like to know the size of the pro tools to see if its useful to upgrade to them.

Have only tried the Mocca Pomegranite so far.
It is fantastic!
For me, it is much better than the Camel I had tried before. Tastier, smaller and the initial tingle is milder.
Be trying the others soon so I know which I want to reorder.

Will be flying to London next month and staying a week with a non-smoking friend and am so glad I will have these. Plan to take my Pilot as well or try to get an Evo in the UK (I'll be posting a separate thread about that soon asking for advice). And I still smoke analogs, so I'll be having those when outdoors.

Again, thanks TBob and Noodles for the help.

You're welcome. Went to buy some snus locally today, and the General Mint Mini had gone from $3.75 per tin to $4.45. And this before the new taxes kick in.

All I've seen around here are the Camel snus.

What will the new tax hike on these be?

After trying the pomegranite snus, I wish there was a pomegranite juice for my Pilot :D
