I can't afford an e-cig just yet (really, the hubby says it's not a good idea yet, so working overtime now to kill the argument) and I can't wait..so I read up on this tread and very intrigued by this snus, figured it would be a way of cutting down on the smoking while I wait for my inevitable e-cig order.
Based on what I read I just filled an order for:

Wise Original
CatchDry White Cassis (Menthol)
Vertigo Bahama Velvet
Mocca Mint White
Mocca Pomegranate White

All were dry white mini portion from Northerner.com

I also found Stonewalls, Ariva AND Camel Snus on genuinetobacco.com, didn't catch anyone making reference to there yet, so I'll try those if this order works out..
My husband's a bit skeptical of snus being much different than American snuff or dipp, so hopefully when he sees the pouches the idea will sound good to him too :)

Will post more on my impressions

I so hope you like it. Your first order is outstanding. You might not like the taste of every one immediately, but wait a day or two and try again. I've liked many the second time around.

Stonewalls are for pretty heavy smokers; Ariva for light smokers. I use Stonewall Java many times each day (on first waking up, after every meal, etc.) I have one in place as I drink coffee.

The small mini pouches will not be visible to those you speak with. You can keep them in place as long as you like (I average 30 minutes for the strongest, two hours or so for weaker ones). Good luck and post back.

P.S. The only thing snus has in common with dip is that both are tobacco products absorbed through the mouth. Very, very different tobacco processing used, etc. Snus are vastly superior.

I too tried snus thanks to TB. I like it. The first order that I made was Catch Licorice, OffRoad vanilla coffee and Lucky strike. I've never chewed or dipped tobacco before, so I can't compare it to that, but it did deliver a good nic-hit. The best out of the bunch was the liquorice. There's something about the flavor combination of liquorice with the salty tobacco taste that really works. The coffee vanilla has a very subtle flavor, not enough taste for someone who drinks espresso and black coffee all day, but still a pleasant hint. The lucky strike wasn't quite what I expected, that being one of my favorite brands of cigarettes. The snus had a hint of lemon and didn't have that familiar toasted aroma, but it's growing on me. Thanks for the thread TropicalBob.

Give each a chance. I understand why you'd like the CatchDry. I like everything they make, and buy CatchDry Peppermint at a local tobacco store in Florida. The Offroad brand gets mixed reviews much of the time. Vanilla/coffee is not bad, but certainly doesn't taste strongly of either. Offroad Cranberry is pretty good, BTW. Offroad Cola is not! Lucky Strike will grow on you. You'll find yourself reaching for it when you feel the need for a strong nic hit. Keep it around and use it sparingly.

Hey Bob

Just wanted to say thanks for all the background on snus. I don't think I could have sorted through all that info without all the great info in this thread (dang, there are loads of snus). I finally got my list down to manageable proportions and I have to say they're very attractively priced.

Here's what I ordered (from the northerner.com):

2 Wise Wine & Chef (6mg)
1 Wise Citrus & Menthol (3mg)
1 Wise Original (3mg)
1 1847 by Philip Morris
1 CatchDry White Cassis
1 Lucky Strike
1 Mocca Mint
1 Vertigo Bahama Velvet
1 Vertigo Cuba Gold

Reckon that lot will let me know if snus are for me or not! Can't wait to try 'em.

You definitely got some flavorful selections there Emp, I bet you'll be happy with most if not all of those. You might have to give it a few days to acquaint yourself with the difference in the Swedes interpretation of flavors, ie; salty and not so sweet (although a few of the ones you picked are pretty sweet as Snus goes, imo). The two I really like from what you picked are the Lucky Strikes and the 1847....great stuff. Hope you enjoy, I bet you will.

Wow. What a list. Absolutely do give yourself more than one try at any you initially think you don't like. Toekuttr mentions he likes 1847 and Lucky Strike. Me, too, but it took me several times before I "acquired" a taste for either. Any sweet ones I just naturally like.

The 6mg Wise is pure dynamite. Be alert to your own reaction to it. It has a very powerful kick at right about 10 minutes into it. I usually don't use those until about mid-afternoon!

This is all for the good. You're adding variety to the alternatives to smoking. And variety is what I enjoy most of all. I choose to use what I want at the moment. It's a fine way to get past a cigarette craving.

To me, the journey should be the joy. After all, we all have the same destination in the end. Snus helps make the journey pleasant. So does e-smoking. But I also do not believe in putting "all my eggs in the same basket." Drop your basket and all you have are scrambled eggs.

Congrats and post back on any 'yuck' or 'oh wow' moments.

There are UK folks on the snus forums and they all order small amounts online from either buysnus.com or The Northerner. The forum leader lives in Germany, and he has no problem. I wouldn't think of ordering more than 10 tins at a time, however. There have been reports of intercepted packages and high duty fees being due. It's a sad situation, as far as I'm concerned. Snus has all this history of safe usage -- and the EU won't allow sales. That's a sad commentary on our times. And that resistance to a proven harm reduction alternative bodes poorly for acceptance of e-smoking.

Superior indeed! Just got my order in today but haven't had much chance to try them. My first was the Mocca Mint and it was very minty and good, as is the CatchDry Cassis Menthol I'm trying now. You weren't kidding about the salty dominance in flavor, but it's rapidly growing on me...
Surprisingly the only other one I've tried so far, Vertigo Bahama Velvet, I really wasn't too impressed with. I really thought this one would be the tastiest for some reason but I haven't given up hope on it-in the fridge it goes for a couple days!
Definitely like the mint flavors the best so far.
I'm trying an experiment tonight to see how long I can go w/out a cigarette while using the snus instead, I will try the other flavors (and report) and let you know how effective the mini snus only is against a 30 cig/day habit :)

You might use snus just to cut that 30-a-day some at first. I went off cigarettes using snus two years ago, but went back because snus alone didn't do the entire job for me. With e-smoking added, things are easier now.

Bahama Velvet will grow on you. Give it some time. Cuba Gold is more like tobacco, but it might have to grow on you too.

Glad you like some of 'em. They will steady out your blood nicotine level and dampen your between-cig cravings. Finding a favorite is a matter of trial and error. But I'd still suggest keeping many tins in rotation -- you don't eat the same meal every time. Why use the same snus? Choose what you want at the moment!

The snus is certainly holding it's own against the constant smoking, even being only 3-5 mg of nic each..so far i'm impressed - it's a bit of mind over matter as well I've found but, like you said it helps between the actual need for smokes, I couldn't quit with snus alone (at least w minis).

I'm surprised at how sore the snus makes my gums, cheeks and lip after constant use - is this normal? Or something that one gets used to, or possibly more tolerant to after some time of use? TB I know you mentioned some people at snuson.com try for this feeling, but haven't found anyone mentioning it on our own happy forum.

Aside from that...what a wonderful product. Wise and Mocca brands are my favorites :)

Your gums and cheek definitely adjust. I feel no discomfort most of the time. And I'm not one to advocate putting the snus under the upper lip and leaving it there. That's silliness in my book. Move the little pouch around, so one spot doesn't get all the nicotine.

Good choices on Wise and Mocca. Both are excellent.

Don't feel any urgency to quit smoking. That will come as you adjust and switch over to snus. Use snus now to cut the number of cigarettes smoked. You might find, as many do, that you come to prefer snus to cigarettes.

And pay attention to dental hygiene, even more than usual.

My snus finally arrived... I am not too fond of them until now. I ordered more brands, maybe I'll find one that I like. To tell you the truth I have no intention of using them but you made me very curious and I knew I had to test them :)

I also ordered a pack of firecracker gum (made with tobacco; 1mg nic/piece) and it's very good but I see no difference from a normal spearmint gum. I hoped it will have some tobacco taste, otherwise it's just a nicorette with invisible tobacco pieces...

Some people take to snus like a lost relative; others don't like any taste other than highly sweet and artificial, like the Camel or Marlboro U.S. entries.

Note that Firebreak gum has only 1 mg nicotine per piece. You have to stuff your mouth with four expensive pieces to equal a single Nicorette. Firebreak is a waste of money for any but lightest smoker seeking a short diversion from smoking.

I have been using Snus for about 1 1/2 years and it is good for getting you of the ciggys, it takes a little comitment at first tho as it can tingle a fair bit when you first use it and the taste can be a little overpowering.
I have only just got my first e-cig last week as I wanted to find an alternative to the Snus that won't stain my teeth so much or cause a sore lip if I use it to much when I have had a few beers (I will still use the Snus aswell but not so much),
I have always used buysnus.com for my Snus and found them very reliable with no problems in the time I have used them, for a first time user I would recomend "goteborgs rape white portion" or a new one thats not long been out called "nick & J east" they are both resonable strenth for somone who smokes a pack a day and have a "cleaner snus taste" that shouldent leave you fealing sick afterwards if you are fealing brave the onyx are nice aswell but you have to like the snus taste before you try them or you will not give it a fair go as they are jet black pouches with a high nicotine content and a very distinct flavor.

Don't forget to check out other sites for there price as im sure in other countrys the prices will be difrent, If you do use buysnus.com you can add the username of anyone who has said they use buysnus as a referal and they will get points towards discounts (I did notice at least one person mention them before me) and don't forget to ask anyone you introduce to snus to add you as a referal so you get the points :D
