Near a beach in a desert.
I found this while looking for info on clinical studies being done on electronic cigarettes and found one that had been done by the US government at the Clinical Behavioral Pharmacology LaboratoryRichmond, Virginia

the trial was done from Feb, 2009 to Oct, 2009 and has since been completed. As of yet the results of the study have not been posted.

I am curious, does it generally take this long before results are pupblished?

Here is a link to the page.

Hi 420GG - Good info and link -
If you click on the "No Study Results Posted" tab on the webpage then click on the link that says "About Study Results Reporting on ClinicalTrials.gov" it will go to a page that has info -- once bit of which was they have a year once the study is complete to submit the results for review --
Also under the heading further down this page "Displaying Results Records" they give several reasons why the results may not be posted yet including that the results may be in the review process. Sooo, it's def. something to keep an eye on. i have it bookmarked!
Thanks! Good find!

Upon quick research into the many coded numbers for this research- I came across this publication
Clinical laboratory evaluation of potential reduced exposure products for smokers - Nicotine & Tobacco Research

(available for purchase). I then did a search for the term "electronic cigarette" within that publication.

What I got was amazing to me! OVer 49 results!

ALL LISTED AS:
Sorry - record recently removed from the database

BTW Phillip Morris's electronic cigarette? I found way too many results and believe they are and burying it ..just a feeling that I have.

10 puffs from a so-called "electronic cigarette" named CROWN SEVEN (16 mg cartridge; 30 second inter puff interval)

Why don't these trials ever use models in wide use such as the 901/801/510/401 or are these in wide use but just never mentioned on the forums. The research was sponsored(funded?) by the National Cancer Institute by the way.

Now where did you guys get that info ????? a bumper sticker LMAO !!!!

E-mail reply , I BET nobody bothered to e-mail him DID YOU ???????

I preliminary report from the first 16 participants is "in press" at the journal tobacco Control. The editorial staff there tell me the paper will be released via the journal's "online first" system any day now. See:

Online First

I regret that the data have take so very long to get out -- the manuscript has been written for some time, but the review and publication process have been slow.

Well after reading about 80% of this study ( some of it I did not understand the technical aspect ) the conclusion was something like this
1. E-cigs do NOT deliver nicotine in significant amounts
2. E-cigs DO suppress the desire to smoke
3. They warrant further study as a smoking deterrent
4. They do not know how to use an ecig
5. E-cigs are much easier on the heart
6. E-cigs do NOT deliver CO2 ( good thing ! )

Quote
In spite of delivering no measurable nicotine, both
electronic cigarettes tested in this study reduced ratings
of “craving a cigarette” and “urge to smoke” and
increased subjective ratings of product acceptability
(e.g., “satisfying,” “taste good,” “pleasant”). These results
are consistent with anecdotal reports from long-term
electronic cigarette users and support the notion that
electronic cigarettes may provide an alternative, perhaps
a substitute, to cigarette smoking in some cases
