I have saved a ton of money since I quit smoking. And for disclosure sake, I have never spent more than $150 on any 1 box mod. But I have spent about $500 on devices that have failed within the first four months of use.
Like many, I started with an Ego but soon became dissatisfied with the relatively short battery life.
So I started to buy VV/VW box mods that would last me a whole day at least.
I loved my MPV 2.0 immediately and thought I was good to go.
6 weeks in the micro usb charging port stopped working.
As this was the only way to charge it it became a brick. No big deal 45 bucks.
On the way to buy another one my (now spare)ego died.
My second MVP 2.0 lasted six weeks - same problem
got smart and decided to go for a mod that did not rely on a micro usb port and went for one with an interchangeable rechargeable battery

I went through an IPV mini, Eleaf iStick 40w, Hanna Modz, SIGELEI 150W and a few more
and never used the micro usb port each died within two months either with a screen problem or simply refusing to fire any of my now huge collection of clearo's.

These are not sophisticated products to manufacture

I am finally happy with my 29 dollar kbox 3 months in. It has no screen or micro usb port and I can afford another if it follows suit.

I don't want to spent 300 bucks on one because I tend to lose things.

rant over

Yeah given we're talking simple devices failure rate is too high but that said my sigelei zmax v5 is still fully working and the amount of abuse that has suffered is really bad including out of a fourth floor flat window. It seems very hit and miss on what lasts and what doesn't.

I have not spent more than $35 for a single vaping item. So far in 1.5+ years nothing failed.

2 vamos (they were $30, now $20)
iStick 30 clone ($24)
Sigelei 30 ($35).

EDIT: I forget to mention why I replied: I wanted to say that it looks like price and quality are not related.
EDIT 2: For Provari owners: Provari is exception.

Anything can fail. Only my Innokins died early on me but I still got 6mths from them.

I buy similar to Alien Traveler, 30-40$, and if it lasts 3 mths I'm happy. I've had all my egos survive, some 2yrs. Luck of the draw.

And I agree- the mods with replaceable batteries aren't a better thing necessarily. It's usually the electronics that go.

If your looking for a quality mod. Go for a Mechanical mod, if something gets broken on it, it most likely can be replaced for a decent price. Variable wattage is great if you dont like to build coils. On a mechanical mod you build to taste, my prefered setup is on a mechanical mod and i have a .18 ohm single zipper coil.

That's exactly why mechanical mods appeal to many vapers.

This is my very first mechanical mod.
I paid less than $35 for the entire set up without batteries or charger.
    It still works flawlessly.
    No chips to fail.

Yep, still loving all 20 of my mech. mods. Hard to ruin a $35 mod made of $10 metal but really easy to kill a $100 VW made of $20 electronics. I am not knocking anyone choosing VW devices, some are great and some are awful just like mech. mods (especially clones), VW is the way to go for many people. Figured I'd state that before the wrath of rage comes my way, lol.

I'd love to have VV/VW but unless Rob starts making VV/VW Reos again it looks like I am a mech guy for life. And that's just fine with me one juice, one mod, one atty, and one build in it doesn't get more KISS than that.

I got my 1st VW mod about 6 months ago and I have to say I love it. It opens up a lot of possibilities that mechs can't touch. A tube mech can't fire over 85W-ish, but a VW mod can hit 200W nowadays. And there's no tapering performance as the batteries go flat. I still use my mechs and have attys built specifically for them, but my VW's are my daily drivers now.

A mech mod will fire over 100 watts. As long as your building at .16 and under. Technically at a full charge im getting 115/120 watts depending how much voltage drop my mod has. I have a .14 build. Do the math on a ohms law calculator

maybe you have bad karma when it comes to mods.. I have 2 SVDs that are over 2 yrs old and still work like new, an IPV4 that gets daily abuse and is still kicking, cant really count mechs... they are almost indestructable. Altho I did waste a bit of cash on Ego batteries but those were the only thing basically available when I started vaping that were affordable...

Depending on the mod, it's only gonna do it once and then you're at the ER, lol :)

many choices for a good regulated mod:
    1. sigelei 200w with big graphic screen ( coming out soon )
    2. sigelei 200w fuchai (cant adjust joules in temp mode tho)
    3. sigelei 150w tc (out now, not too expensive)
    4. ipv5s (coming out soon)
    5. snow wolf 200w version 2 (coming out soon, looks awfully similar to sigeleis 200w thats coming out soon as well)
    6. yihi sx mini m class (solid mod, small, battery cap is a pos, but its not that bad really, can get upgraded battery caps at elevated vape accessories for $20, get a case from gingervape for $10)
    7. yihi sx mini ml class (smaller than sx mini m class, software will come soon)
    8. wismec reuleaux dna 200 (triple 18650 !! crazy)
    9. wismec reuleaux rx 200 (triple 18650 !! this is the NON-dna200 chip version)
    10. ipvd3

too many to name but these are good ones to get imo

i would recommend you mechanicals but... regulated mods offers protection and an consistent vape from full charge to putting batteries on the charger, all you have to worry about is changing batteries and dial in at the settings you want to vape at

I am tired of the disposable product problem in general, not just with vape gear. I have been for about 10 years now. I try to buy American but that is becoming very hard to do since more and more manufacturing is going overseas. I have found that quality products not only last but are more satisfying to use during that extended lifetime.

I started with an Istick 20 and quickly outgrew it. It does still work but not for my present needs. I then got a Cloupor Mini and within a couple months the 510 failed. It was then that I collected myself and bought my first DNA40 Flask, by this time the DNA40 problems had been corrected. I liked it so much I bought a second. Both are going strong. My third mod is now a VT200, made in China but with the DNA200 Evolv board. I worry a bit that it will fail due to build quality but at least I am covered on the board. Expensive yes but worth it for peace of mind (to me).
